Hey guys, Looking to see what your opinions would be on a repair. Whilst cutting the grass today, I looked back at the bush hog to see that it was sitting funny. It was fine when I started and I didn't hit anything with it, but I noticed the lower link hinge pin was off (the one that screws into the tractor below the rear axle... part here Yanmar Tractor Parts: LOWER LINK HINGE PIN W/NUT_.

It seems the threads are bad on the pin or on the tractor itself. I remember it being a little wonky when I got it, but it tightened fine before. Now it won't stay in. With any bump it pops right out. I'll probably order that pin to see if that will work, but it seems the threads on the inside are stripped and/or cross threaded.

If that's the case, I thought about just spreading on some JB Weld to fix it. It would be the cheapest option and I would think it would work just fine, but are there any alternatives? I thought about maybe somewhere I could take it to have it drilled and tapped for a new size, but figured may be a little pricey. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Norm - who hasn't posted here for a while - said he found a Yanmar HD replacement for that hinge pin. This replacement is much longer. Its outer end attaches at the outer wheel bearing where the sway chain attaches.

Hey Norm - where did you get that part?

I don't think norm is going to answer (although he may surprise me). I haven't seen him post in some time. You have nothing to loose.. If the JB weld doesn't work you know what you have to do. Drill out tap Welcome to the site :welcome:

Thanks for the speedy responses guys. I also noticed that the nut on mine isn't quite on all the way and it seems to be deeper than where it was sitting, so maybe I can free that nut up and find some good threads, and put a good amount of loctite before I go the JB Weld route. I just wanted to make sure that doing so wouldn't interfere with anything else on the tractor. Thanks again!

Thanks again for the help, guys. Well, i really need to get this thing going! Was about to order the helicoil kit when I saw this:

Key Locking Thread Repair M-Kit Includes: M22 x 1.5 Heavy Duty Inserts & Installation Tool

looks like you have the exact situation that I had. Remove the nut and screw the pin in further than it was, using a few of the new M/F threads. (make sure it won't interfere with anything). You can now see how thick your nut can be, which you can grind down to fit. Mine is still working fine. The repair parts and # are in the back of the OEM YM240 parts manual.
