Yanmar ym2000
Hello everybody at TBN. I just bought a Zen-noh ym2000, it says yanmar on the engine on the front of the hood and every were else. Is it a Yanmar? I have gone through the tractor alittle drained and replaced all fluids, filters. Its real hard to start and knocks baddly at low idle. Yesterday I went to the JD dealer they had a ym240d it started right up and didnt seem to knock has hard as mine.the thermo start works although it dosnt seem to have or get fuel up to the bowl from the injectors.I was told the injectors time the engine and that i need to rebuild, clean or replace injectors. I have alot of ?any help on these thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

First, welcome to TBN, you'll find alot of help here, as I have. I have a YM2000. They are Yanmars, (other thread posts will explain the Zen-noh label). My ym2000 hammers louder at lower rpm's but it probably wouldn't hurt to clean the injectors if you find it knocking excessively. I added a little Power Service DFA yesterday to my fuel tank and noticed an improvement almost instantly, (you may want to try this). As far the the hard starting, .........is the battery fully charged and are you near full throttle for the intial startup? My starts ups quickly at full throttle, then once it is started, I drop the throttle back to anout 1500 rpm's. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

I think you need to get fuel into that thermo start bottle for it to provide any heat. If you have a quartz halogen worklight or a heat gun you can point it at the intake side of the engine for a while, see if that helps with the start.

I got a new battery and cables as the old ones were in real bad shape. got fuel in the thermo bowl and she builds a fire in the intake /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif still seems to take alot of crankin to start.athough I had to bleed the lines as i had them off fooling with the injectors. I never got them out frozen in the head. hope I don't ever need to get them out any time soon. After the tractor warms up you can shut down and it will start right up. I put some power service in the fuel only ran a few minutes tonite probably not enough time to do any good. It still seems to pound, knock, bang hard on low idle 1000-1500 rpm what is the red line at about 2400 is that operating rmp. Seems to run smother but loud.

I'm a couple of months ahead of you on the same path. I've fixed the minor aggrevations that made the previous owner sell this YM240 and now it runs like it should.

Like yours, mine clattered excessively. Fresh fuel was the solution. I was told the tractor wasn't really worked for several years, just occasional loader use, and I think the fuel must have been 10 years old.

Power Service made it start easier on the old fuel and quieted that awful knock, and I've since drained it and filled with fresh diesel + Power Service. Now it starts, and sounds, like I had hoped it would.

Here are a couple of threads where I got a lot of good advice:

Lowest working RPM?

Yanmar Hammer quieted by Power Service

You will find there are a lot of owners, and former owners, of YM1700/YM2000/YM240 here. They understand what you and I are inquiring about, and all of them are helpful. Thanks guys! With your help my tractor is now a reliable solid piece of equipment.
