Hey could someone give me info on the operating temp range for a YM2000? While bush hogging mine creeps up to 210 after about 45min. Havent let it keep going past that.

Are you keeping your radiator clean? It is amazing how much "stuff" from the grass and weeds gets on the front of the radiator and screen and blocks the airflow. The temp gauge on my 1820D seldom goes above half way, even on hot days, with clean radiator/screen.

According to Hoye's article the light (normal 2000) is to come on at 220F. That tells me Yanmar is saying it is ok to operate up to that temperature. Doing a little research I read in the 195/240 operation manual you are not to exceed a 40% anti freeze ratio in summer months. Page 71.

Did you install the gauge? Are you confident it is giving a good reading? Might check it with one of these. Infrared Thermometers & Shop Thermometers

Here's a thread where several dealers said 220, maybe 230 maximum, is normal for a Yanmar with water pump.

Included in that thread: the near-twin to YM2000 - but no water pump - is designed to run even hotter:
The OEM temp sending unit on your YM1700 is set to turn on the temp light @ 248 degrees + or - 5.4 degrees and turn it back off when it cools down to 233 degrees + or - 5.4 degrees.

I suggest this $10 HF pocket non-contact thermometer to independently verify your gauge.

My Ym2000b has a OEM temp gauge and never runs above the 1/4 mark unless radiator plugs up with chaff. If I can believe the gauge markings, that works out to 155*. Has been that way for the 13 years I have had it. (50/50 coolant). Anything approaching the 1/2 mark, (210*) is too hot on any vehicle.

... Anything approaching the 1/2 mark, (210*) is too hot on any vehicle.

I believe that if that were true, the Yanmar engineers would have set the warning light sensor on their non-waterpump supplied engines at that level. I also understand that all modern auto engines run above that temperature.

The temp light is precisely why warning lights are historically known as "idiot lights'. By the time it comes on you are out of business. I have 2 older GM vans , ('90 and '99), that both operate at 1/4 gauge or barely above, as have all of my other gauge equiped vehicles.

BravoDelta, FWIW - A while back I posted the temperatures I found at various points using the infrared thermometer that I described in post#4 above. These numbers might give you a baseline to compare your observations.

This cooling system is up to spec since the previous owner had taken the radiator to be rodded out just before I bought it. It has never overheated, probably because I keep the screen in front of the radiator clean.

... infrared remote temperature sensor. I found 140 degrees on the bottom of the oil pan, 165 at the lower block, and 195 near the injectors, at the upper radiator hose fitting, and at the radiator upper tank. The radiator lower tank was below 100.

And if anyone's interested - that was in a post describing replacement of the oil pressure sender when it quit working. To oversimplify - a $6 generic replacement specified for 70's Datsun etc worked fine. But read the thread (longwinded!) if you are considering this.
