Yanmar YM 226D
I recently purchased a YM226D with the knowledge that the 540 was out on the PTO. I was also told that it needed the 540 gear and the pinion shaft and that these parts were not available...but it was a deal I couldn't walk away from. I took the PTO assembly out while changing the fluids and verified the damaged parts:

Anyway, before having the gear and shaft repaired, does anyone know if the PTO from a different model will cross reference to the 226D?

Thanks in advance!

I am not able to access those pictures. May be one of the dealers that post here will be able to match those parts for you .

send an e-mail to this guy . He may be able to help

Thanks for checking on the gears Danny.

I guess the g <-> q would explain why the email was undeliverable...lol

A ym220 or YM250 would probably be the only models that might have the same gears. Salvage models of them are pretty rare.

KFree,

Try World Wide Tractor Parts in Ohio.

They were listing a YM 226D for parts.

good luck on your search,

Lens, thanks for the info. I have decided to repair what I have instead of trying to get something else that *might* work. I have the pinion shaft and both bearing on order.

Corey, no luck at WWT. They list a 226 but emailed me that they don't have the parts I was looking for. In fact, they didn't say what parts they did have for it.

Danny, thanks again for all of your help on this. I'll have to stop by and say Hi the next time I'm in Maplesville.

Well, so much for what I said above. I found a JD750 PTO and installed it. It bolted right in but the input shaft was slightly longer. After taking a 1/4" off of the end of the shaft, it fits perfectly. I can't seem to get it to engage the 1000RPM position but am not concerned about that...the 540 works and that's what matters. Now I can actually do something with the rotary cutter I recently got.

As an aside, the guts of the John Deere PTO is completely different from the Yanmar PTO so probably nothing other than the bearings and maybe the shift fork (proper name???) would exchange between the two. Even the casting numbers are different for the cover but you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if the color was the same.
