I have a RSB1300 tiller that I am using and the engine will lug and then race as the soil changes, so I wonder if I know what I am doing. Anyway, I was tilling under some field grass and the engine lugged too much and died. Now it will not start. Any ideas what I have done or what I can do to figure out what I did to my tractor?

Any unusual noises when it died other than heavy lugging? I'm assuming engine is turning over but just won't crank? Does turnover sound normal? Doesn't seem connected to what happened but you might crack your injector lines slightly at injectors and see if you are getting good fuel pressure there. Plenty of diesel in tank?

If the engine is turning over have a look at fuel system. Right from tank to post injection pump.:D

The engine was not turning over at all. In fact I do not hear any noise at all when I turn the key over. Not even the click I heard several months ago before I cleaned the connections on the starter. I did try starting it just a couple minutes after it died, I haven't tried it this morning. Hopefully it just needed to cool down. No other unusual noises when it died, there is plenty of fuel, I filled the tank just before I started.

If you don't hear the starter solenoid, then I wonder if the electrical system quit. Try the headlights.

Do these have a fuel shutoff solenoid?

I've been sitting back awaiting the answer to a question I may have, but the question has not been asked yet, so I guess I'll be the one sounding dumb :D
when trying to restart the tractor have you put the PTO back into Neutral?
I realize this would have nothing to do with the lack of having power to the electrical system, But just wondering why it bogged it down to the point of shutting off in the first place?
usually one would not just bog to the point of shutting down when the driver can hear and feel the tractors response to the ground and react by pressing in the clutch etc, etc, ....unless of course the electrical system did in fact shut down...? sounds like some trouble shooting tips need to be offered ;)

Examine the pto lever. Is there a pto safety switch? That would prevent using the starter until the pto lever is shifted to neutral.

Check the small wire to starter solenoid, Mine sometimes losses connection I wiggle wire and it will start right up.

Start with checking your battery connections. Do they look nice and clean or like rusty crap?

The engine was not turning over at all.

This sorta indicates an electrical problem? Do the lights work?:)

It's maybe time to check all the safety switches, fuses, connections etc. Even the key switch could be suspect. Not a fun job going Thu all these. Slow and steady one location at a time and the problem may be found.:(
