I am pretty sure something internal has broken loose in my transmission. I have yet to open it up to see what might have happened so I wanted to come here and get some opinions or what to look for before I get started. My 2310D had been parked for a little while and I had to move it but when I started it up and put it in gear it didnt do anything but as I reved the motor it lurched forward and began to move but then a pinging/clanking sound started coming from the transmission. This was in total about 50ft moved. I didnt want to cause anymore damage to it so I stopped and left it where it was. So it had to be moved again and it was the same situation when I tried to move it but this time when I stopped and let the frontend loader and box blade down the hydraulics no longer worked. Its trans/hydraulic fluid was changed and filter cleaned at the beginning of the summer and probably 5 hrs or less on it since then. Any ideas or what to look for than might be causing this issue I really need to get it going again for spring. Thanks for the help.

About the only thing the powershift and the loader/3PT have in common is the oil. They have different pumps and different plumbing circuits. I would check the oil level and the screen again. If it is freezing there it might be that some condensation has frozen in the oil and clogged things up.

I was thinking maybe something had come loose from the transmission and made its way into the hydraulic pump somehow. This happened before we had any freezing temps. You can feel all the main gears engage but when you put the powershift into gear it takes awhile to engage then it will start moving but something coming from the trans area is popping and pinging when it starts moving it doesnt sound good and it fine one day and then it started this. This weekend i am going to drain the fluid and check with a magnet for metal.

It is not impossible but I think it would be very unlikely. It would need to get through the screen somehow (unless something damaged the screen when it failed). I guess if something made a big enough mess when it failed then it could have coated the screen in shavings or something too. It will be interesting to see what the oil looks like.

is the screen up high on that model where you can get it out to inspect without draining the sump? That would be a simple first test.

Bummer. I thought all the Powershift models had the screen behind this cover plate. I just learned something new.

I thought maybe it had another screen but I just looked and I only see the one that is on the bottom left in the back. I guess I will start with draining the sump and looking for metal pieces. Then go from there depending on what I find. Maybe it will be an obvious problem that parts are available for and I dont have to remove the transmission to fix.

If all your hydraulics have quit then the main pump or suction line leading to it has to be involved.

So after this weekend I had a learning experience with my tractor it appears my transmission got a lot of water in it and had created a sludge. I guess after sitting for so long at a time the water would go to the bottom and the hydraulic fluid looked new still. I didn't realize there were 2 drains for the hydraulic fluid and I had only been draining from the lowest one where the screen was. When I drained it at first the fluid looked new coming out but by the time it was done it was some nasty stuff that started coming out out. The filter screen was completely clogged with this sludge. I removed the plate from the top of the transmission where the range selection is and saw there was still a lot of fluid left in the sump. This is when I realized there was another drain for it and once it drained it was full of that sludge there. I got all of it out the best I could then filled the sump up with fresh fluid and everything worked for awhile no strange noises coming from the transmission and the loader and 3pt worked again. It didnt take long before the transmission started pinging and popping and the hydraulics quit again. The filter was completely clogged again in a matter of minutes with that sludge. I changed the fluid again and got more out and it seems to be doing much better but I really havent done anything but make a loop around the yard with it. I was going to run it for a little while and change the fluid again. It had to sit out in the weather for awhile last year which is I guess where the all the water came from. Also when I first got it I changed all the fluids and it had a couple gallons of water in the transmission and I did a couple fluid changes then but never drained from that other drain directly under the range selector. I have changed the hydraulic fluid annually but now I know I was not getting everything out. I dont know if the sludge had been building up there and just came loose or what but I have never seen it before in any of my previous fluid changes. I am hoping no real damage has been done from this. Do you think I am on the right track by running it and changing the fluid or should I do something different? Is there anything I should check now that I know there was sludge build up? Are there only 2 drains for the trans/hydraulic fluid on the 2310d?
