Hi all, new to forum but have run the 2420D for quite a few years.

The tractor started losing power & dropping RPM which really scarred me. It has proven an unstoppable work horse so expected worse.

I checked fuel filter then purged air and when I did the air release by the Fuel Injection Pump everything came back. Problem still comes back after a short period of time but is instantly fixed by air purge. I have taken to just popping hood & pushing with a stick that I keep on the tractor now.

I have fuel leakage by the front injector and have not determined if from the excess fuel line or from the connection at the injection pump. I also have a little fuel coming up at the second injector that appears to be where it is screwed into the head.

I hope to pull apart tonight but wondered if this symptom is know to be caused by just bad piping (particularly if it can be caused by the excess fuel lines) or can I expect more serious issues?

Appreciate any input/ideas.

When you checked the Fuel Filter what condition was the O-Ring around the Fuel Bowl in. When I first did the Maint. on my 2000, with the same setup, It was so Dry Rotted that it broke.

The O-ring was good. I have new filters & a spare o-ring in the mail but am sure not an issue at this time.

I may have replaced the oil ring the last time I serviced but I am not smart enough to write it down and suffer from ... what were we talking about... oh, yeah, I tend to forget.

I am actually heading out to work on it now but not sure if I will get too far before a storm hits.

I believe your find the problem. Don't feel bad I have lists everywhere. Aneurysm with Head and Neck Injuries from trying to get back to the house. 5Wks. ICU.. No doubt I CRS. half the time :confused2:

Well, got caught by storm so nothing conclusive. I believe that the connections are all tight now but won't be able to test till later today. I will replace all the hoses on the excess fuel side but feel they were probably not leaking. Loosened then tightened the piping connection to the front injector but don't feel that was a problem.

Do these injectors develop cracks? I don't see how it can be leaking from the head. I hear the injectors are hard to pull. Any rebuild/inspection recommendations?

Injectors have gaskets on both sides of the injector chamber and an insulator above the upper chamber. You can leak at any of those points. Although this 2000 injector is not identical to yours you can note how they seal. Yanmar Tractor Parts: HEAD

Get a cheap vacuum pump and see if you can pull fuel from the tank at the motor without sucking air.

"when I did the air release by the Fuel Injection Pump everything came back."
So, your problem is before the pump. fuel leakage at the injectors not an issue.
