YM3000-Bad ignition switch ?

....if I hooked it up wrong could the glow plugs be "glowing" all the time the tractor was running. I'd just unhook the things if I could figure out where they were.

With the key in the "run" position, put a test light or meter on the end of a glow plug and ground the other side of your tester. No current = no problem.

I hate to sound dumb, but where are the glow plugs? I've looked and can't find anything that looks like it could be one. It would have a wire going to it, right? Don't see anything like that on the head..?

I just looked at Hoye's website. It looks like the YM3000 uses the Thermostart system. It has one larger glow plug in the intake manifold. It should have a wire and a small diameter hose going to it. The glow plug heats up, and opens a small check ball-valve that lets diesel drip from the hose onto the heating element. There it burns, and warms the manifold with the flame. Cranking the motor sucks the hot air into the engine.

I see two plugs available; I don't know if they are interchangeable or not, or if the YM3000 came with two types of engine or intake or what.

OK, I've seen something that looks like that on my engine. I'll check and see if it's got voltage going to it tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

New switch installed. Everything works. Thermostart/glowplug only getting voltage when it's supposed to. If anybody else with a YM3000 needs a new ignition switch this one will work, but it is NOT an exact replacement for the original switch (are you listening Hoye??). I had to enlarge the hole in the dash so the new switch would fit. Then had to use a big shim under the dash (I used a short piece of 1x4 board with a hole drilled in it) to get the new switch to stay put in the dash. After all that was done it works fine. Many thanks to everyone who shared info and ideas. This is a great web site, glad I found it!

Chriswheeler has a YM3000 too. He bought the replacement switch from Hoye, and says it was a direct replacement. I wonder if there is a serial number break somewhere, like with early/late model YM2000s on some parts.

I wondered about that as well. My YM 3000 is SN#01282. Looking at the pictures, all match mine except for the stuck switch that was removed and replaced ?? My replacement from Hoye is exactly what they provided to me and exactly what I replaced in my tractor. Because these are all used tractors, sure possible that the original owner could have installed something else at some point before it came here ??
