What a bummer, I got the old gal steering and driving well, but now it has a leak.
It seems the leak is more prominent when in reverse. The leak appears to be at the interface between the valve body and transmission on the drivers side, (haha) left, low. Directly under my left foot.
I see Hoye and Fredricks both offer gaskets, (TG-2432 and TG2433).
SO..... How hard is it to replace these? Is there a easy way? Can I cut gasket on top and sneak it in? Or perhaps just carefully apply gasket sealer around perimiter?
OR am I on the path to a full split? With all the trimmings...

Any advice? N8

No idea where your leak is? Thinking 3 point valve up under the seat? Can't think of a valve under your left foot.? I am dense, help me out. :D

Sorry for the lack of clarity. I guess I was more tired than I thought.

After the engine block there is the bell housing then a 2 inch plate between the bell housing and transmission case.
The leak is there betwen the plate and transmission, very bottom of tractor.
Hoyes referres to the gasket there as a "gasket-valve body to trans." Fredricks referres to it as a transmission gasket.
I am already quite intimidated.......

Wow, I don't blame you for being intimadated. I would be too. If it is leaking more while in reverse I would think it must be a pressuized cavity or opening and I imagine the only way to stop it would be a gasket change. Probably more than one gasket time you get through. I notice Hoye is showing two different gaskets. I guess one goes on one side of the valve body and the other on the other. :confused2:

Seems pretty daunting to me.
What do you all think about just seporating the pieces a fraction of a inch and applying a minimal coat of RTV? Of course being careful not to over apply and getting it into the port holes?

You could try. When you start to separate if the gasket begins separating (some on one half, some on the other) you might as well take it apart. :2cents:

B-4 I took it apart ,I would try to separate it a little and apply some RVT. This is what I did on my rear axle housing. It's been holding for 4 yrs. You can always take it apart if the RVT doesn't work

But if that component contains high pressure hydraulic fluid circuits, it's not likely to seal same as rtv'ing an axle housing.

And I would be concerned about getting RTV blobs into the hydraulic passages, to flow along and get stuck at the worst possible places.

I'm not saying don't try it, but I would investigate whether it is a high pressure passage spurting. If so, I would teardown since I don't expect that applying rtv sealer just at the outer edge of a passage will leave the thing shifting correctly.

I don't know if it has HP or not. I'd have to look at the repair manual, to see if it provides any info.. I'm not in town (at home) right now to be able to check my manual
