Hey all... it's been discussed here before, but I'm in need of a set of forks for my 336 with factory 1500FEL. I also use the tractor for business (loading/unloading Semi's) infrequently, but some of the pallets that I could be moving may push upward of 1K pounds (maybe a bit more). Found that the LandPride Tiller makes a great rear ballast.

This setup looks like a good fit for me: Howse Pallet Forks for Front-End Loader, Model# SXFLPF-BLK | Skid-Steers + Attachments | Northern Tool + Equipment , but a set of "clamp on" forks for the bucket make me nervous - although I don't need them but a few times a year.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery please???????? Need to get something done here in the next week and onsite.
Thanks gang. DTPERK

DT,

That looks like a bargain to me! I just bought a Koyker skid steer change over and SS pallet forks for my Koyker loader and I like them but they were a lot more money.

One thing I had problem with on mine was the forks were tilted down when lowered and I had to add spacers at the back of the forks to raise the tips.

(need to go finish my thread now, I just did the spacers yesterday)

Anyway that setup looks like you have choices where to put your loader arms (and that would have solved my issues) so I like that also you will like them I am sure.

Oh I had clamp on forks and they are great for light lifting but I bent my bucket lip quite a few times these will be better and not much more money either. :)

Rock on CD, I'll look up your post on your setup for your forks. Sounds like you have it covered. You know I had to replace the starter on this 336 and Hoye only had it *NEW*.... Not even a rebate/refund for a CORE CHARGE! What's up with that.... Freekin $350.00 for the starter - Highway robbery if you ask me!

Ever done brakes on the YM? Gonna try to tackle that next. :confused2:

No haven't had the pleasure or pain of that job sorry but from what I have seen its no big deal just a matter of a lot of rust etc. :)

Yeah thats a chunk of change alright ouch! I deal with "new" alts and starters also in my business and once a factory sets up for new unless they have a recon division they usually dont want the core.

With that said I also with new parts where they charge a core and want it back anyway because these company's do have a recon div or sell them to one fwtw.

Ever have one of these starters apart? I think the brushes are acting up, solenoid clicks all the time, but starter only turns when it feels like it. Would love to refurb this one and keep it as a spare.:D

No I haven't but they will be like the rest I have had apart in that the brush's and bushings and solenoid are the real only things to watch for. You would be surprised at how many brush's and bushings and solenoids are available at the parts house's not necessarily for these tractors but available no less.

I have bought bigger than needed brush sets plenty of times and simply ground them down on a grinder or side of a cut of wheel they are soft graphite and shape real easy. What I do is look at the pics and find ones that have similar wires attached and go from there its a piece of cake.

As far as the solenoid goes I can only speculate but I bet I could find one that would work (if I needed one) looking thru a parts catalog and some can even be torn down and sanded and cleaned up where they will work for probably years. ;)

Car Doc, you are a veritable fountain of great info. Great idea on the grinding of a bigger brush. I'll remember that next time a motor I have grinds one down (and I can't find a replacement).

i also have a set of the clamp on's and they do a good job, but as CD said they do bugger the bucket up. i want to make a new bucket for mine one day anyway so i am not to fussed about the damage.

Thanks for the kind words Domush! I am still old school educated even though I make my living on highly technical cars. :)

Update for any interested..... Did a lot of 'Internet' research and was seeing a lot on Payne Forks (Clamp on the front of your FEL). Reviewed a few Utube vids and then checked out the Payne website.

Hmmmmm. New product announced.... Alumiforks... Half the weight, free shipping and most importantly (for me) MADE IN INDIANA, USA!!!
Ok, give them a call to see about ETA for delivery (as I have a few skids of products arriving in less than a week) and Nancy at Payne assured me that my order placed on Monday would arrive by Friday - - Well they arrived on Thursday. Great Service, well made product. Highly recommend.

So I clamp these babies on and load up a skid full of cinder blocks (about 800lbs). Lift 'em, bounce 'em around - forks didn't budge.
Next week my product skids show up (heaviest was about 900lbs) and no issues getting those babies off the trailer.

I have nothing but great things to say about my forks - I'm not an employee of Payne, have not been paid for this review or received any compensation, just a happy customer. If you are considering a set of forks for your bucket, check out Paynesforks.com - Tractor & Skid Steer Bucket Forks Attachments

PS - I went with the "light duty (1200lb) Alumiforks and steel stablizer bar.
