Rake Yo, TR3 Rake Owners...

Anyone with before & after pix of the TR3 in action? The video from the company is very unimpressive to say the least. I gotta see what it can do to a sloped, pothole filled, gravel driveway or a clay-based rocky field before I pass judgment and spend $$$!

A sloped potholed filled driveway will get smoothed out, but I guarantee you it won't stay that way for long. I watched the video with the understanding of just what was trying to be accomplished. If you were not impressed with the TR3 video, neither the ATI or Harley power rake videos will do much for you either. I have a Harley Pro 8 and must also admit, the video does not do it justice.

Like Bucky4 , I have been trying ot make up my mind on this TR3 thing? I almost puchased a power rake like Rat has but put it off a few months as I can't use it till the snow goes anyhow.
I too have the video and found it less than impressive. It may not be the cost of a power rake but it is still lots. Gravel drives and rough cut over ground are the two main uses I have.
I forget who it was but someone had said good things about it? I just need a bit more info or insights into its function and outcomes.

I have the video as well, and while I do think it can do like they claim, I am having a difficult time justifying the price tag. It seems a bit steep for what it is.

I just bought a TR3 and have been impressed. It does just what they say it will do. I started with an overgrown field full of sedge and oak sappling up to 1" dia. After many passes, I had a prepared seedbed, no rocks or clods, nice and level. This was on my first use, and the instructions are lacking, so I can only imagine that it will get easier and faster as I figure out how best to use the rake. Mine is a 5' model pulled with a Kubota B21.

I have several more sites to grade in the next 3 weeks, and a couple of long gravel drives to try it out on. I'll post again when I have truly put it through its paces.

Like to here of your future work with the TR3. I am looking at one for the same reasons. I just need a bit more info. Never enough of that when spending money. I have many gravel roads to do and a loader bucket no matter how well used does leave something to be desired.

How many passes are needed to prep a heavy soil ( clay ) for seeding?

Is it as good as many say at leveling, raking gravel drives?

How tough is it to remove rocks and roots to a waste area with it?

Can it clear brushed over land after brush cutting and if so how well?

How does it compare to a power rake?

I am sure there are more but this is a good start.

Ok, Here are some questions:

Usually three-fourish.

Is it as good as many say at leveling, raking gravel drives?

If you're talking a gravel drive a pass down and back will really level it up. If it's a compacted road base type drive, it depends again on the mositure content, but after 3-5 passess with a decent amount of moisture, it will fix some pretty nasty potholes and provide a decently compacted, nice, smooth surface.

How tough is it to remove rocks and roots to a waste area with it?

If you lock the leveler bar down, it will carry a ton of that stuff to wherever you want to drop it. It will not windrow.

Can it clear brushed over land after brush cutting and if so how well?

I've done exactly that on my place and for others. Again , I've been happy with it.

How does it compare to a power rake?

I have no good idea as I've never had the pleasure of running a power rake, and there's no place near me to rent one. But, from what I can gather, the TR won't windrow , so you have to stop intermittently to drop your spoil.

The power rake probably does a faster job of seedbed prep, without multiple passes; however, I've been able to get very satisfactory results, just took a little longer.

The TR has decent rippers, so it will bust up the surface reasonably deep, good for potholes. I don't know of the power rakes capabilities in this area.

The TR doesn't require any PTO or hydraulic power or connections, if this is good or bad.

I am sure there are more but this is a good start.

I have no affiliation w/ the TR3 folks, other than being a satisfied customer. It's a versatile tool that for me has been worth the $$$, and fairly idiot proof /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I see that you have horses. Do you use the TR3 to condition a riding ring? If so, does it perform well? I'd appreciate any comments as I am considering a TR3 for whatever ring I end up with (am getting a place in the next six months or so).

Does anybody have any experience with the TR3 rake/sprayer combo? This seems like an excellent choice for dust-prone rings.

Also, I've never gotten a quote on one, and if I rememer correctly, the website doesn't list prices. I don't mean to be rude, but if somebody wouldn't mind posting either a quote or an actual price paid (don't forget to mention the size), I would appreciate it very much.

Yes, that's a big part of why we got it. I have paid for it already doing arenas around here for other people. It's easy to adjust how deep the footing is. Once you get it set up, virtually anybody can do a decent job draggin an arena.

I have the 6 1/2' model, and I belive we paid $2500-2800, with a set of replacement teeth, and a rail kit. That was a couple of years ago at least.
