I found a York pull behind rake for $250.00. Two questions: Does anyone have any thoughts on using a pull behind instead of a PTO rake and I wonder what one of these is going for new. This one will need to be wirebrushed, sanded, and painted, but everything is working with no rust through.

One of my concerns is whether having just the weight of the implement is sufficient versus the advantage of the pto holding the implement where it is set. On the other side, I could use my Rhino with this as a pull behind.

Thoughts are appreciated!!

I have an 8' rake that's 3 pt but I never use the top link so technically its a pull behind. I put 500 lbs of iron weights on it if I want it to dig.

When I purchase my York rake w/fold down grader blade years back, just about $100 foot..doubt very much prices have gone down to much.

Clean and paint than sell..good winter project..put coins towards PTO rake purchase.

Before I got my Kubota I rented one a few times to use with my garden tractor. I thought it worked really well and was very pleased. York makes a quality product.

Doug,

I borrowed one you described a few years back when we were putting in a lawn. I think they go for about $500 new. I recall standing on it while the wife drove the BX24. I was about 175 pounds then. It did the job, but if I ever buy a rake, it will be hydraulic so I can work solo.

From what I am seeing, I'm thinking I should just go ahead and get the PTO version and save the fixup and paint part. If I'm going to have to add weight (having grandma ride it like a carnival ride does have a certain appeal :ashamed:) I think I'll just spend the extra $$$ and get the PTO style. I have several roads to work on and it will be used quite a bit, along with my box blade I'm thinking.
