You know it\' busy tractor season when...

1) A local dealer tells you to "I dunno, come drive through our lot to check"....click; when asking if they have any chain harrows

2) The receptionist at another dealer says "is this to buy a tractor or not? If not someone will have to call you back"

3) A call again to #1 above results in this greeting "uugh, Goodrich Implement, yeah" (sorry but you deserve to be named)

The busy season is just now getting started in this part of the country. It is in almost in full swing some places. Yesterday at my dealer, I asked how long for a regular stock order. Normally they get one every week, but it is about 10 day now. (Personally ordered parts can be had over night.) The busiest time of the year here is hay season. The dealers look forward to it, but dread it also.

One of the other cub scout dads is the controller at my JD dealer. He said last night they are exceptionally busy. Normally, their property line along the road is lined with big ag tractors but this year they're all sold and gone. I'm hoping this is good news for the economy overall /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My dealer is flat out as well. The fellow I do all my business with can't get out to my house for the delivery until after work. I at least admire his dedication - I just wish he was getting paid to help me. He is in a way - thats why I keep giving him my business! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

When the Small Farming Town's main street is devoid of PU's and the coffee shop is empty you know there's work going on, a big storm or an auction sale in the next county.

There is a lession to be learned here... if you want good serivce.... PLEASE do not wait until the last minute.

Right now its taking me two weeks just to get a tractor setup with three people working full time to make that happen.

Neil, You are sure right about that. We try to utilize the phone, Fax, emails and of course "face to face" when on our lot to better manage the traffic and it still gets pretty hectic sometime. BTW, We have local competitor dealers that will use some of the "shady" tactics mentioned on earlier posts. At these dealers, 3 customers could be waiting for service and the 2 guys needing a $130 hay spear or product information to help make a futuure purchase are put off, in order to deal with the 1 fellow who may buy a big ticket item. We have found that, if all our customers are treated on the first come first served basis, no matter the dollar amount, the business will benefit, in the long run.--I have been told hundreds of times that I spend too much time with my customers. Maybe sometime I do? However--I feel like I need to make a friend before I make a sale--I just may be old fashioned--Ken Sweet

ken i am also told that i spend too much time with my customers, but on the other hand i have the lowest returns around.... my customers are informed and know that they can call me after the sale with issues rather then just bringing items back. i treat everyone that walks up to me as if they are buying a big ticket item no matter what they accutally come in for.
