Yes they make chain saw type blade for 41/2 grinders used for wood carving
very aggressive hold on tight.Used it rough cuts .Cant recall brand if entrusted i will look it up for you. Framer

Yes they do, but kinda scary holding a grinder with that unprotected blade spinning madly without any sort of base plate to guide it.

I did it but was uncomfortable doing so.
A 'kickback' is what worried me.
I plan to fab some sort of base plate for next time.

I've used a 4" chainsaw wheel on my grinder with good results - was able to keep the factory guard on it, too, so didn't feel unsafe.
wear a face shield in addition to safety glasses, though.
another option would be to use a rotozip with the saw attachment for it.

In my younger and stupider days, i made a bushing so I could put a 5/8" arbor circular saw blade on a 9" grinder. dangerous as all getout, but did what I needed to do at the time. This was before I found out the sawblade was rated for 4500-5000 RPM and the side grinder was running 7000-9000 RPM - am very lucky the blade didn't throw a tooth or chip while I was using it.
