Your opinion wanted on trailer length (25' w/ 5 ft dovetail or 28' with 5' dovetail)

I pull a 27+5, and there have been many, many times that a 25+5 would not have been enough trailer. Only one time has the 27+5 not been enough trailer for a load I intended to haul with it... That was a 140 horse tractor with a 15' Woods batwing with walking beam axles on the mower. It would have fit a standard batwing.

Ended up using a 36' trailer.

I have a 25+5 with an adjustable beaver tail. The last 5 foot raises up to make a completely level 25' deck. I know that Gatormade has the fold flat ramps but there is no comparision there. I could easily use another 3' or 5' for that matter. Im glad to hear that you are going tandem duals though. I'm very close to overloading my trailer and I thought I got it big enough I wouldn't have to worry about it. I plan on upgrading mine from 14.5k 20+5 to atleast a 30+5 tandem dual. Just have to take care of some other things first! I have to say that 500lbs difference in weight in not enough to change my mind to stay away from a longer trailer. Like someone mentioned earlier. Everyone wishes there'swere longer!

original goal of diagrams was for ramp choice. but just started thinking of troubles over the years i have ran into, and wish i had this or done this or that....

wooden deck, or metal deck? can make a difference in total weight of trailer as well.

the dove tail can be one dangerous situation waiting to happen, to try and walk up. when it gets wet.

optional stuff.... a cigarette lighter 12v plugin, near tires and on rear end of trailer. so you can plug in a spot light on a stand or like. to help load / unload stuff, during night and being able to see were the ramps are. vs moving another vehicle around to the side and shining lights on rear of trailer. and hoping lights stand high enough on other car/truck to keep shadows from happening, and get light were you need it the most. on the ramps.

side running lights, for trailer during night. so no one side swipes you trying to pass you, or runs smack into side of trailer.

having a place to store some hard wood 2"x8" boards 8' long or so, to use as longer ramps. or to place under ramps, or place under tires, when trailer tires get stuck in mud.
