I was just wondering what you guys thoughts are on skid steer rotatary mowers. The cut quality, how fast they cut, the stump left are things I was curous about. I was wanting to use it to clear brush and small trees.

skid steer solutions makes 8 inch capacity rotary clearing mowers. They require 30 gpm hydraulic flow and cost about $10 000, but they can cut bigger then the skid steer mulchers I have looked at and cost half as much.:2cents:

I am with Fecon and we make a rotary mower for skid steers, the FRM70 that will cut 6" material efficiently, it does require high flow. What skid steer do you own and does it have high flow?

My husband and I own and Operate Warrensburg Tree Service Co. Inc. and contract to electric utility companies throughout Illinois, does anyone know where to get our used Fecon Teeth redone? they are on a 2008 ASV PT-100 Forestry, with a Brand new Fecon BH74XT Mulcher Head. this head is NOT your regular fecon BH 74SS teeth, its the BH 74 XT (ASV PT-100 Forestry) Head Teeth. with allen style head teeth.

We just can't afford the $92.00 dollars a Tooth, for our head, we have spent casings that just need to be rebrazed with the double tipped Carbide tool, or anyone perhaps know where to get any teeth for our unit new ALOT Cheaper??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Davco is the best rotary head for a skid steer. I have an Ammbusher DL66(same unit as the Fecon) and it has not held up under extreme conditions. I have replaced 3 motors and 2 bearing housings (four years of occasional use). The blades bend easily in stumpy or rocky areas. The local dealer has one other tree company that brings theirs in regularly for the same problems. The Davco blades are b

I switch from my Fecon mulch head and the Davco rotary in smaller material when I can, up to 3 inches...the davco leaves a cleaner stump in hardwood saplings but much coarser debris and works a little faster in the smaller stuff. You can cut bigger but only if you want a real coarse finish.

Some ss cutters are designed to work flat on the ground and will leave stumps. They will shut off if the rear is lifted.

Others are designed to be tilted down for the blade to actually work at ground level. The side skids are tapered in the front. My Brush Monster is built that way.

In my (limited) experience, the ss cutters don't mulch the material like a tractor driven bush hog will do. Mine just snips it off and leaves it laying there, pretty much intact. Maybe the high flow units do a better job of mulching.

Again, in my limited experience, the ss units rock back and forth a lot more and do not give as smooth of a cut as a tractor pulled bush hog.

This was done with my ASV 4810 with a Davco last fall(i need to finnish the rest further to the rear yet)
the regrowth in the rear was the same as what is cleared(2 to 4")

How clean are the stumps? Do you have to worry about puncturing tires? How do rotatary mowers compare to mulchers?
