As the title suggests, our ZD series mowers have 2 features that have always puzzled me. I'm kinda weird that way, LOL.

Maybe one (or more) of the smart people here have an answer, even my dealer's staff have no clue.

First, the ROPS has a pair of 'hand knobs' to put tension on the folding ROPS in the vertical position to prevent rattling and distorting the pins and holes. The puzzler is that there is 3 positions but no way to apply anti-rattle tension in the other 2 positions. Anybody have a solution to this? Other than leaving the ROPS vertical?

The second part of this is that at the folding point of the ROPS itself there is an additional piece of steel sticking out to the rear which is in the center of the lower section of the ROPS post which seems to serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever, other than giving me something to think about on long boring drives that is. The holes don't line up with the holes in the upper portion of the ROPS so it's not an extra position. I've been through all the service and operator's manuals and parts diagrams I can find, no answers or joy of any kind. They are so close to the pivot point they actually go up inside the joint when the ROPS is folded down.
Has anybody ever figured out what that is? Is this ROPS shared with some other model that has a function for this bit?

TIA
