I bought a new ZD326 60" with a mulching kit. Naturally, you have to mow a little slower with a mulching kit since the grass is getting mulched under the mower instead of just being thrown out.
So far I am very satisfied with my mower but with our heat and heavy rains in south Louisiana the grass grows very fast and thick. The motor really slows down a lot when in thick grass and if the grass is a little damp it will pile up underneath and bog down the mower so you must raise the blade and move a little to let the grass out before the motor kills.
Since they don't make the larger 31 hp mowers anymore, I don't think that this mower would be powerful enough for a 72 inch cut with a mulching kit, that is, unless you were just using it on a golf course type lawn on a regular basis.
They claim that the 72" has an engine with more torque even though it has the same horsepower but I would have to see it in action here on my heavy grass before I would believe it could work well with a mulcher attachment.
