new to the site and a new tractor owner

got one of the reconditioned Yanmars. It's actually a Zen Noh YM2200.

I have a couple of questions

would this post belong here or in the Grey market forum?

Is my tractor evil, for being a ZenNoh Yanmar, instead of just a Yanmar?:)

I'll try and get a few pics, so far, I'm very happy with it.

Welcome Bert!

Tractors are not evil, just a few of the sellers are............:)

As to this forum or another, if you refer to yours as a YM 2200, who would ever know?

Look forward to the pics!

Hello Bert and welcome to TBN.

Just about every model Yanmar produced has a long, durable and reliable history. Some models are a little on the rare side, or limited production (some as a one year only) like your YM2200, but if it's in good shape and your dealer offers any warranty period you should be very pleased with the tractor.

Mind if we ask where you bought yours?? Did you get any implements in the package?? Hope to see some pictures :)

Good luck with your new tractor.

Mark

I don't mind at all.

I do have a 30 day warranty. The tractor looks brand new, due to being re-painted. I purchased it as a package deal from a fellow in Belton Texas, at Tractor Country.

Along with the tractor, I got a 4' shredder, and a 4' box blade, and a brand new 16' trailer. If during the next year, I remain this happy with my purchase, I will be adding a front end loader form the same fellow, for about $2k.

Does that price sound about right?

Welcome aboard!

A ZenNoh is a real Yanmar, it simply was marketed in Japan to members of a big ag co-op with their logo added. You belong right here!

The only evil related to the name 'ZenNoh' was the American who had the bright idea to file for a US patent (trademark, actually) on the word 'ZenNoh' in the US, then requested Customs to collect royalties on each one for him as it arrived - no matter who imported it. That was all settled long ago. He lost.

See if your serial number starts with 'Z'. Importers may now be slapping ZenNoh decals onto plain Yanmars to get around Yanmar Corp's similar trademark-rights disputes. This is an ongoing soap opera and has nothing to do with the quality of the equipment. Can anyone comment on where this stands at the moment?

Bert, post us some pics!

The 2200 goes back to the early/mid 70s, and most importers (other than the you-know-who) don't buy them. Nothing inherently wrong with the model, just less parts support and obviously far fewer used/salvage parts. We can get those parts that are available, and if you want to buy a copy of the parts book, email us.

With such a short warranty, I would suggest working it at least 30 minutes or so in each gear range, as well as using the pto under load for several hours. I've never understood how anyone selling what they claim to be completely or "factory" reconditioned can only warrant their tractor for 30 days when we give a 6 month warranty on ours....as do several other dealers.

Before buying that loader make sure you know who will provide the parts and warranty service if you need any. Some loaders are very proprietary, and no one other then the original seller may even know where they came from. While many of us can provide parts for that 2200, the same would not be true of someone's in-house loader.

I have never seen a serial number on the chassis that started with "Z", and I've been recording serial numbers for over a decade. Not saying there aren't any....but I've never seen one, and I'm sure a lot of what we have had was authentically badged as Zennoh.

Just for grins......take a look at zennohtractors.com or zennohtractor.com or zennohparts.com Someone saw the efficacy in purchasing those domains years ago.;)

Maybe I'm mistaken. I thought I heard mention of that here, and also thought I saw some ebay auctions with that in the SN field.

Anyhow - Bert like I said, the trademark stuff is an endless soap opera. You walked right into the opening lines of episode eleventyseven. The rest of the cast of characters should be along shortly.

You could liven things up if you ask for a comparison among the single-source loaders out there. :D :D :D

I think you will like it here, it is a great source of information. As well as entertainment, sometimes.

ebay doesn't count.:) Some of the folks that sell tractors on there have PhDs in BS. Recently a 2310D represented as a 276D after it was chased off, and lots of nonsense claims. So you may well have seen someone on there claim a serial # with a Z, but I have never seen such on a Yanmar manufactured machine. I suspect there was no differentiation for Zennoh...the coop simply placed an order for so many of model xyz and those units got different decals and rolled out of the plant on to trucks bound for where ever Zennoh distributes from.
