Talked to 'manual' and seems like there should be zerks on the tie rod ends like there used to be on a car (and still are on my jeep) but all i am seeing is caps(?) like they are greaseless. Any thoughts?

Seems I recall this being discussed a long time ago, The manual showed zirk's where there was none...I guess the manual folks don't talk to the production folks and vise-verse:confused:

I have a 3720 and a 4320 and neither of them have grease zerks. It doesn't bother me as long as the joints remain sealed to keep the dust/water out and the grease in. Many (most?) newer cars do not have zerks. However, I do think the JD Operator Manuals should be updated to reflect this.

I looked at a 110TLB at the dealers, still waiting for mine to come in, and it had no grease fittings also.. I asked the dealer he claims almost all the new Deeres have no fittings on the steering . :( I know they use polyurthane and teflon in steering components to prevent wear on cars today that do not require grease. But I also have had to replace tierods, ball joints not cause of play but squeks. I guess it is a throw away world! :( :(

I have a new 4120 and about 4 days after it was delivered I noticed the same situation as you did, no zerk fittings on the tractor even though the manual illustrates and describes how to grease these non-existant fittings. This makes me wonder how many other things in the manual are wrong, not updated, overlooked, or unnecessary. Deere had better get on-the-ball in regards to their manual that they provide with their thousand dollar ++ product. It also would help if John Deere dealers informed prospective buyers of design or serviceable changes that have been made by the factory and not included or left-out in the tractor manual, before any purchase has been made by the customer.

I'll wager that a lot more tie rod ends have been ruined by owners or lubers putting too much grease in and busting the dust shields than ones that are sealed for life. In all my years of owning cars, I've only had to replace ONE tie rod end.

I agree 100% with you.

I've got an earlier 3120 with zerks, so, the manual makes sense to me. I understand all later models are zerkless. Not sure if I prefer one over the other. With all the other zerks I need to grease (BH and FEL), this one doesn't get greased but once a year if that.

Thanks every one for the input. Did not realize it was an older topic. Just seemed strange to do the FEL every 10 hrs and never do the steering. Of course i have noticed the bolts on the FEL do loosen up quite a bit.
