Zero Turns at Home Depot??

I don't think I can help you too much but seeing as I just went through researching and eventually buying a new lawn mower, I'll through in my 2 cents.

I wanted a ZTR also - due to landscaping, trees, and general stuff on my 2 acres. The residential equipment at the box stores is entry level stuff and similar in quality (integrated pump and wheel motor rather than separate motors and pumps). I'd decided on either JD or CC initially. I noticed a few returns with seriously slashed tags but full warranty at HD. I thought I'd probably go that route hoping to get a deal and started going to check them out every day to see what came back. I asked the manager which brands come back most often for warranty or return - Toro, CC, then JD least. I did the same at Lowes - Troybilt, Husqvarna, then JD least.

I ended up getting none of those. I bought a JD X324 with 4-wheel steer. The uncut radius is 9" - its not ZTR but close enough for me. Cost a bit more than the entry level machines but it also has a 4-yr warranty.

I would recommend the JD....because I have one! LOL! But I have the Z425 and like it, which does have the separate pump/motors. But all seriousness aside, I think the integrated pump/motor units are fine for non-commercial use. That's what's offered on the $4K+ Bad Boy ZTR's with fabricated steel decks. And where will you take the other two when you need service/repair? There's always a John Deere dealer nearby (usually, in most areas of the country). And they sell that same Z225 model off their showroom floor.

JD if you MUST go to the box store to use the gift cards. The thing about them is after you buy it they could care less. If you buy the same thing from a good dealer he will take care of whatever comes up. If I was a dealer and you brought a box store mower to me for warranty, I would do it, but you would be at the end of the line waiting a while.

Yep. Tractor Supply sells the Bad Boy ZT for $5k. I think all the residential versions of the ZTR's have the integrated pump/motor units.

sucks to get those cards and be stuck buying at a certain store, I have run into that myself. If you are going to get a mower with them, then as much of a JD man as I am I think the Toro z5000 is the best of the bunch in this crowd. I know several guys that mow grass for a living that use this mower and they all really like it. dollar for dollar it stands near exmark as far as quality and reliability goes.

I went to the local Toro dealer because I like Toro brand equipment and they are having 0% for 36 months on some of their mowers. While there, the dealer showed me a Country Clipper mower that had allot of features I liked. Easy access to everything, all metal and heavy duty. No sealed bearings either. What I'm not excited about is the B&S engine and the single hydraulic pump. It has joystick control for stearing, which might be good or not, I'm not sure on that. They also offer handles to stear with like the other mowers.

I'm going to check out Kubota and Deere this week sometime and one other lawnmower shop that I like. Their main brand is Scag, but I know they have other brands too.

The mowers that I saw at Home Depot and Lowes were all kind of light weight compared to what I've seen at the dealers. I don't need commercial, but I want something heavy duty that will last. The Deere Zero Turn at Lowes that I looked at yesterday had a hydraulic leak and it was brand new, just sitting there.
