ZG fuel use..

This year I picked up a brand new Kubota ZG 127 S Zero Turn mower 0 hours on it.. I cut 2 pretty big yards. The first time with the tank full "4 gals" it burned at least 3/4 the tank.. I even remember thinking the tank must be to small. After 5 or 6 cuts everything went the same..

Last weekend I fill it up and start cutting.. same grass, same amount to cut, same conditions.. after finishing the first yard I looked at the sight gauge and it had only went through only a little bit of fuel.. once i finished everything it had only used 1/4 tank..

I've had a new outboard motor that injected extra oil for the first 10 hours to help with the break in but this is just a normal carb Kohler 27hp motor.. did it all of a sudden "break in" at like 13 hours?

Not complaining just never seen this drastic a change in such a short time or all at the same time..

Any thoughts or input?

I have no experience with the ZG, but I keep hearing that the Kubota gasoline engines are about the most fuel efficient gas motors out there in the ZTR world.

And, yes, motors take some time to break in so it's not unusual for the fuel usage to decrease as it breaks in. Not sure that such a drastic change is typical, but probably not completely unheard of.

It's a nice surprise, I'm sure.

My leaf blower was about the same. When I first got it could blow the end of my driveway off one time and only have a little gas left. After I ran it some now I can clean the driveway off 5 or 6 times. I guess some engines just get way more efficient after break in.
