I'm doing maintainance today and 2 zirks (grease fittings) are not taking grease. When you take something and depress the ball, a tiny bit of grease shoots back at you. ????

Probably have dirt UNDER them. Screw 'em out, take a small piece of wire and clean out the "hole", then screw in a NEW zirk fitting. 90% of the time, that'll take care of the problem.

I agree with Indydirtfarmer, although you might not even need that new zirk. Once cleaned out, the old one may work just fine.

rcrcomputing,
I'll second what indy and bird said. Once in a while, if that doesn't help, possibly the hole in the bushing has rotated. If you take it apart, verify that you can see the shaft that should get the grease. If not it's a hassle to fix. I've been through this with the tail wheel on a rotary cutter. This wasn't too bad, but a lot more work than I wanted to do at the time. Thank goodness it don't happen often.

Ok, same problem on two of them. One on a pin that holds the fel bucket on. I tried removing digging out etc. Nothing worked. I finally just took the pin off the bucket and found the little hole where the grease comes out. I had to litterally drill it out manually with a pair of pliers and a wire holding it as short as possible and working on it for some time.

On the second one, I'm not sure what to do as it is on the underneith on the power steering. This one I've never greased because it did this before and I just thought (at the time) that it must be full with nowhere for the grease to go. Now, of course, I know better. So you think, tomarrow when I go back out there, I might be able to get a flashlight and see the little bitty hole to clear it out?
My dealer is to far away to bother him with a silly grease fitting.

Is it possible there is some operator malfunction or a Bad grease gun? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My Father in law swears @ my 'Cheap sonuvab!tchin' Grease gun every time he uses it, Tell's me he just bought a new one, 10 times better...(he missplaced it though) then he's back a week later to borrow it.. again.

Works fine for me.....

Just pokin' some good natured fun...

Have two grease guns. I have never gotten grease into this particular fitting. Otherwise operator malfunction would be a good assumption. I don't work on stuff by design. However, I luv my tractor (too much I think) so I work on it.

I'm going to do battel with this thing this morning. I accidently lied when I said it was the power steering. I don't know what it is, but it's the very most forward fitting in the underneith, center of the tractor. A square box that's mounted to the tractor. I'll take a pic in a bit.

Make sure you wipe the dirt off of fittings before greasing them, otherwise you just push dirt in there. Also wipe it after you grease it to keep dirt from building up on the fitting.

Try taking the pressure off the part that gets the grease. In other words, if it's that front zerk in the center of the pivot between the axles, you may be able to lift it up with the loader and then try. Also turn the wheels to different angles to see if that helps.
On any of the zerks that are on movable parts, you can often get them to accept grease by changing the moving parts position.
I've often had that problem on a coupld of the zerks near the bucket, but curling or rolling it back usually takes care of it.

Here is the offending grease fitting. I have cleaned it inside, tried to leave some penatrating lube in it then tried to fill it with all the pressure I could muster.
When I had the fitting off, I see a shiney bottom. I see no hole the grease is to travel thru, though maybe there's not supposed to be one. ???
