On my ZTR42 I bought a deck belt the online factory manual says is # 954-04137B or A replaces 754..... But Parts tree.com diagram for that specific 42" ZTR deck says it's #95404045 repl 754....... which seems to agree w aftermarket belts on Amazon. Which is right and Y might they differ? Thx gus

The 954/754-04137 is 114 1/16 inch long were as the 954/754-04045 is 109 1/4 long. Need to look up your belt using the model number from under the seat as well as the correct year determined by the serial number.

The different in the 954 versus 754 is the 754 is a loose belt whereas the 954 is in a sleeve.

Thx RT; I'm a mechanic and good at finding parts I need on the web, but I didn't mention that the ID decal under the seat is wiped out. However when U do the lookup for the RZT42 on the partstree diagram you see in the title description that the diagram covers 3 model nos w different last couple digits and the deck belt is indicated as having only 1 number the 954/754 0405 and all the other aftermarket belts for the RZT42 deck belt lookup on amazon say that's it too. Looks like that should B it then? Lotta diff between the two and I have have no clue why the longer one is listed at the end of the [factory]CubRZT42 online manual with the "common replacement items" Thx 4 yer quick reply, Gus

It looks like the belt varies by what year the mower is. the 2006 uses the 954-04045 whereas the 2012 uses the 954-04137 Can narrow down which belt it is if you know year. Or if not get the serial number from the engine and it can be determined within a year that way.

Hopefully you can locate the year for RandyT. There are some subtle differences in the decks. The older version looks to use the plastic spindle guards as well with 04045. The idler arms are shaped different could be another way to help compare.

OK guys. I'm afraid I've been derelict in trying 2 ID this thing. I looked at what's left of the ID sticker and can see the end of the model # so it should be 17BA5A4G710 taking the beginning of that no from partstree ID, and the serial is visible reading G20011 and a source for Cub lookup says the 5th digit is the yr= 2011. So we seem to concur it's the 109" 04045 belt. And yes it has the plastic spindle covers. While I have yer ear, this thing has 500 hrs on it and is V clean. How critical is it I change the hydro oil as seen on the web by siphoning from the fill hole? (I have a pump) I know I should purge it at least. It's whining loudly and would barely move into the shop. I hope that doesn't mean it's been damaged too much (???) Thx for the attention. Gus

Well, changing the oil isn't cost prohibitive if you have the time. A question I always ask is how long has the noise been there and what has recently changed. When someone is opening their wallet, it may help with determining a risk factor. Especially when they are paying someone a 100$ hour to do it. If it comes down to something more involved, verify that the wheels come off the thing before going down the rabbit hole. HG has an excellent website to help you along in answering these questions. Thx guys; thought I'd pass along that I found the HG site informative though I'd already known of the purging procedure that was new 2 me. The hydros are now quiet and working right after a new belt and the purge. The old belt was so stretched out the idler was over against a part of the frame and grinding away, sparks and all. I finally found the old deck belt I misplaced and it's the shorter 0405 and It looks like I'll have a clean serviced $2000 ZTR42 coming back to life. Testing in my snowy driveway to test the hydros. What the neighbors think. Guy's really lost it..... Maybe sell it for 6-$800 ??? All new belts, blades battery. Looks like a Tonka toy next to the Z222 Zmaster I'm working on. Regards Gus
