Yesterday, a friend dropped off a 135 Massey (diesel w/alternator) at my house. Charging troubles. It was literally melting batteries. I found the 3-wire (GM style) alternator wired rather odd. It had sensing wire and field wire tied to #2 (field) terminal. Alternator was in a state of constant "full output" (OVERcharging battery constantly)
OK auto electric wizards, Am I correct in this next statement? #2 (sensing) connects to batt, #1 (field) connects to gauge/idiot light? (I'm looking at the wiring on MY 150. All wires encased in a protected harness. Can't distinguish which wire goes to what without butchering my harness. I'd rather do without that)
None of the Massey manuals I have shows #1/#2 terminals on alt. It just shows wires to alt. I can't find any good illistrations in any other manuals. And I'm NOT "up" on my auto electrical's. (I HATE working on something that's been "doctored" from original. )
