Anybody ever break a WD torsion bar doing this.... ?

I'm not looking to go crazy (was it Reese's old ad.... that had a Buick Riviera pulling a trailer using a WD hitch, and the car had no rear wheels ?), but I don't have a good feel yet (first WD hitch) for how tough these torsion bars are.

I think the official instructions list hooking up the WD bars just after you have lowered the trailer height enough to latch the ball (virtually no weight on the tow vehicle) This is how i do it and only requires a slight pull on the stock 2' bar they give you to operate the cam over latches.

I suppose if you had the fixed chain mount versions there would be no issue in jacking up the back slightly to get the chain attached.

I haven't scaled my trailer, but I suspect that the WD hitch that came with it is capable of dealing with a lot more tongue weight than I have.

The hitch documentation I found after starting this thread indicates jacking up to something like 8" max. Way more than I need, but perhaps that is a reasonable # for the max tongue weight the hitch is designed for (?).

I can see where the temporary jacking height recommendations will vary by hitch manufacturer, and also by weight class.
