I'm working on a 3TNE68 Yanmar fuel pump I just got this engine free of charge BUT it's in pieces and missing a few things but anyway I have the exact same engine in a pulling garden tractor which I have turbocharged and the works. I printed off a manual for these engines and got to reading through it and I come to the fuel injection pump section and my eye caught something, on the side of the fuel injection plunger housing there are two triangle shaped plates with an eccentric screw and a set screw. In the exploited picture it calls it the fuel injection volume adjustment plate. What I'm getting at is I've been on a mission to find ways to get more fuel to the cylinders on my puller without sending it to Columbus diesel along with $2,500-$3,000. Is it possible to adjust the fuel though these plates? I know the manual says do NOT loosen set screw so these must be calibrated on a stand correct? I already removed one of the plates on the parts engines pump to try to figure out how it works but with no luck. I would like to open them up all the way if I could. Those tiny 5mm plungers can't flow enough fuel to cause any harm I'm just trying to max them out so I guess what I'm asking is Could someone tell me which way on these is "wide open" in detail? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks Matt.

Strange, there is another guy with the same name as yours asking the same thing in another thread.

this is more specific about those adjustment plates. but I agree, kind of a duplicate.

Yeah that was me but that one was more about modifications to the plungers and governor.

The problem w/ moving the "2" plates is> #1 cylinder is in a fixed position.. & you "move" 2&3 to match #1..
BUT> to answer your question> YES, moving the plates WILL increase or decrease the fuel delivery on that particular cylinder..
Your actually moving the BARREL, not the plunger.. SO, you have to loosen the top nut[delivery valve holder] BERFORE moving the plates..
otherwise you break off the tab that engages the barrel.. [not good]
The DVH is holding the barrel stationary..

Oh ok makes sense, I was wondering why there was only 2 plates. So here is my next question, which way would I move the barrels to increase fuel? And would it be possible to shim the number 1 barrel using shim stock and a lot of patients? Your wisdom is like gold to me :)
