Default Country Manufacturing 2 Ton Dump Trailer

I decided to purchase one of the CMI 2 ton dump trailers after reading favorable reviews. So, I will give some feedback on my experience.

First of all the paint job was pathetic. I do not mean spots that may have rubbed off on shipment. There are several places that if you rub your hand over the metal the paint just flakes off. Obviously the metal was never cleaned or prepped before spraying. There are also many spots that the paint is so thin that you can see the grey metal. I know this is a farm/yard implement, but I expected better.

CMI supplies precut pressure treated 1 x 6 for the floor and sides. The small ripped filler piece for the bottom should have been 1.0 inch wider. As you can see in the pics, this would not hold dirt/sand or small gravel very well.

The wheels that were supplied have roller bearings on the inside that are greaseable with a zerk fitting. The interesting thing about this type of bearing is that the rollers are directly on the axle shaft. The axle shaft is just soft colled rolled steel. They should have a least been case hardened.

It waits to be seen, but I do not think that it will take long before the soft axles will have grooves in them.

I purchased a 4 x 24 tie rod cylinder and had some custom hoses made for my remotes.

I removed the plates for the pin hitch and added a 2.0 inch ball coupler. It makes the trailer more versatile for me. The pic shows the back of my LS-3040 with hitch setup.

Overall the weld quality was good. I have not had a chance to use it with a load. It cycles up and down smoothly with a steep enough angle to dump anything that I would put in it.

One of the reasons that I bought this trailer was that it was made in the U.S. I am not impressed with the quality. I also own 2 of the Harbor Freight trailers that I am sure everyone is familiar with. One I use as a water wagon and another as a small barn yard trailer. Both of these after several years do not have a paint problem.

Even with the issues I am keeping a open mind and can't wait to start using it. I will report back after I give it a workout.

Maybe mine was made on Monday!!!!!

Another interesting thing is,.... If you manufactured this trailer and were proud of it, wouldn't you put your name on it? somewhere? Yup, no tag, no sticker, no stenciled name anyplace.

The cylinder and hoses look great!

Overall it looks fine from the pics, but I would be upset too with all the little things especially the paint. If you keep the wheels greased it will probably be fine since it is only used around the farm. The board spacing is likely due to the way the newer treated lumber absorbs moisture and swells. I'll bet that wood was very dry when you got it. Post back after you get to cycle some good loads through it.
    Thanks.

Ok time for another point of view. I have had one of these trailers for 15 years and have used the dickens out of it. Your tires will be the limitng factor. Go ahead and put tubes in the tires and you will have few problems. I have hauled obscene amounts of brush, gravel, firewood, and whatever with mine. I also went ahead and put a sheet of OSB in the bottom to keep fine material from falling out. It does have its limits, but if you stay within them you will be pleased. I have hauled 450 gallons of water manuy time. 500 is just a bit too much. No problems with the axles or the bearings if you keep. them greased. You will realize eventually that having another 2 tons of capacity would be nice, but when you look at the cost, you will find this to be a good value. I also extended my sides about 6 inches for loose material.
It is hard to beat the dump feature. The reaon I would like 4 tons of capacity so that I could haul more water in the summer. However much more than that pushes the limit of my compact tractor. willie jones

I've got one too. I have been very happy with the quality and durability of these little trailers. I look at it as a tool to be used, not a showpiece, so with regular use (and a little abuse) the paint quality wouldn't have mattered much anyway.
