JD Parts - Do you pay list?

I am all about NOT nickel and dimming them. I met with the GM about it. We will see what happens, but I think I will be shopping my business locally and remotely.

I'm on your side of the arguement , I feel if I buy a major piece from a dealer then he should give me a 10% discount on repair parts.

It depends on what the dealer gets parts for. If Deere gives him a 10% discount how can he give you one?

Does anybody know details of JD's discount structure to their dealers?

Deere dealer I am familiar with has three separate areas that need to support themselves .. Sales, Parts, and Service.
i.e. The cost of running the parts department must be covered by the money they collect for the parts. And so forth with Sales and with the Service department. The three inter-relate some, and all is for the survival of the dealership of course.

The Deere parts I buy with my money shouldn't support other customers who think they should be treated differently. IMO.

Sounds like socialism to me.

Not true AK, I was just talking to my dealer who really takes care of his good customers (like me!). You go in with an attitude and nickel and dime him you don't get a good deal, if you break it and it's a week out of warranty you're stuck. If you go in and say, "hey, make your money but don't screw me" like I do you get the best of everything and when your machine is out of warranty a month he works in your favor.

I don't shop for price I shop for a guy who I can deal with and that's what I got. In the long run I save more than the guy who fights for every dollar like the dealer isn't in business and doesn't have mouths to feed.
I just did a trade, my guy gave me max on my stuff and a good discount on the new stuff.

In my liine of business I have found that my best customers nearly always pay list and never seem to have a problem. If they do, it never seems to bother me when I have to solve it.

Without fail, nearly every time I give someone a deal, that is the one that goes bad, needs service, etc. And when that problem occurs, it always seems to bother me.

I'm just glad that the parts I need for my JD are available locally.

If you have a local dealer that has took good care of you over the years, try to stick with him. There will be a day coming, when something breaks on your equipment and needs to worked on in their shop. Going rate around here in Main line shops is $120 per hour shop labor. If you take away his parts business online or out of state, he may get his due when his shop work comes into play. All I am saying is, look at the big picture on a long term basis. Ken Sweet

So do you go down to the local car lot and pay the sticker price?
