    SC2400 vs 5254

I owned my 5254 for over 3 years and 300+ hours on it when I traded for the SC2400 last month. Never had any problems with the 5254 to speak of. Here are some observations that I have made, that matter to me: Cons 1. The 3pt hitch on the 2400 is not nearly as sturdy "beefy" as on the 5000...

Traded 54" MMM for 60" RFM

What do you think of this? Just traded my '05 810 54" MMM for an '06 631 60" RFM. Traded even-steven. The Guy bought a 6284 w/FEL and RFM earlier this year. Apparently did not like the RFM as it made the tractor and mower to long and difficult to manuver. Can't believe my good fortune! I...

    Check your trans. cooling fans!!!

I remember having a stick stuck up under the frame of the tractor the other day. Checked things over today and guess what? No cooling fan blades left! I believe this is a much overlooked item that is essential to the life of the transmission. Good luck, Alan

    60" finish mower 819 vs 631?

Cub lists the 590-631 as a finishing mower for the 5000 series, and 590-819 for the 6000 series. Presently I have a 5254 with a 54" mmm. Another tractor owner has the 590-819 finish mower. He wants the mmm and I want the rear finishing mower. What is the difference in the two numbers...

Rotary Cutter  Need info on Rollins Rotary Cutters

Anyone have any info on Rollins rotary cutters? My local dealer is selling them fairly inexpensively. Don't want to get something just based on price. Can't seem to find a web site for Rollins. They want $590 for a 4' medium duty cutter. Thanks, Alan

    Drive System Fluid Plus/Hydro-Gear Question?

Beating the same old horse again. Do all Hydro-gear transmissions use the same fluid? If so, has anyone priced fluid from other sources? How can I be sure that it is the same fluid as the cc brand? I emailed Hydro-gear, still waiting to hear. Eagerly awaiting any info. Thanks, Alan

    Many thanks to Gamble

After much frustration with original dealer, I finally had warranty service performed by a dealer 50 miles away. Thanks to Gamble for all your assistance in tracking down service advisories and for listening to my problems. If a dealer who will recieve no monitary gain can listen to our...

    2005 5000 series w/mmm hose/filter problems

While examining my 5254, I discovered that the hydro hose is wearing a hole in it (a flat spot with the wire reinforcing coming through). Also, the filter is dented on the bottom. This damage could only be caused by the MMM. The hose I am talking about is the one coming out where the filter...

Need help finding this combo Hazard/Tail light.

Can anyone please help me find this combination of hazard/tail light. I have checked all the local auto stores, every internet auto, and tractor web site I can find. They are on a Cub product. My local dealer wants $59 each. I do have another dealer checking on them for me. They can not...

Work Lights- Which one to use?????

I would like to install work lights on my tractor. I have decided on the power, cigarette lighter type weatherproof power outlet. Which lights? Automotive fog, driving, offroad, or tractor utility. Probably many more to choose from. I understand about quality of actual lights, that's not my...

    Lithium Grease Question

My tractor calls for Lithium EP1 grease. It came pre-lubed with their own label grease which is, to use a better term "clear". I like this grease because it doesn't make as much of a mess. The dealer will not carry this grease because he has to order a case. I have checked all the local...

Cub 5000 series rear electrical leads

Wishing to provide an easy way to install a rear work light, I have been struggling with finding out how to get electrical power to the leads under the right rear fender. No reflection on Cub or anyone else I have contacted, Cub informed me that the wiring harness is used on several different...

    5254 Air Filter replacement alternatives

I am sure that everyone who has a 5254 knows just how expensive the air filter is to replace. I know the air filter is important, but why should an air filter for a sub-compact tractor cost $20-$40? I am not ready just yet to replace mine. But I am thinking hard about alternatives. Has...

WIX oil filter and by-pass valve question?

I have a water cooled Kawasaki engine. Original oil filter part number is KM-49065-2078. WIX replacement part number is 51394. The old filter had a visible spring at the botton of the filter. The WIX filter does not. WIX states that their filter has a by-pass valve. Is the visible spring...

5254 water temp and engine oil pressure gagues?

I have learned through a third party that my Kawasaki FD711D engine has both water temperature and engine oil pressure ports. Would it not be worth while to have both these gauges instead of lights?

    5254 Tail and working lights?

My 5254 has an electrical lead under the right rear fender. Would this lead support a set of tail and work lights such as those found on John Deere X series tractors? I do not work at night very often, still a nice feature. To bad Cub doesn't include these features.

    5254 Rear end squeak

My 5254 has an anoying squeak in the rear end when moving either foreward or in reverse. More prominent when used for the first 5 to 10 minutes. NOT associated with any attachments. My dealer has looked at it and said that Cub told them it was NORMAL and probably a dry seal. I have...

    5254 Lubrication of drive shafts

I have greased my 5254 drive shafts, both main and 4wd shafts twice. What a treat! Found a total of 5 zerk fittings on these shafts. Almost impossible to get at. Probably fat hands or something. Anyone else have any thoughts on this or easy techniques they wish to share? Still a great...
