    Texas Spring/Summer Thread

I think we got 8-10" here south of Bastrop but it dried out pretty fast, but we have really sandy soil. Pond is full: Cypress (our main home), well that's quite the mess. No water in our house, thankfully. We got 14-15".

Speaking of cool... They were using a 1948 Ford Jubilee tractor motor to run the mud pump. Pretty neat.

Been quite busy lately. Times are tough in the oil patch but we are limping along with layoffs and such. The weather has been beautiful lately in central Texas - mid sixties and seventies with occasional showers. We have one side of the fence done, which was 1800'. My neighbor and I split...

A few more random photos. My neighbor behind me is clearing his side out to run cattle. Then a couple of another oak grove cleared out. Man the underbrush gets thick. I'm seeing a bulldozer rental in my future....

Some progress done this week! We managed to put in a new gate, constructed from 10-12" telephone posts. I just needed something to last 3-5 years until we put in a nice wooden fence and entrance. The posts are sunk 36" with concrete ... Prob overkill for a 60 pound gate... Better safe than...

Oil & Fuel  Adding mechanical oil pressure gauge

Tractor is 1997 New Holland 1715. I'm not impressed with there being an idiot light as opposed to an actual oil pressure gauge. I was considering adding a mechanical oil pressure gauge to my dash. Any reason why the below or similar would not work if I installed the fitting & tube to gauge...

    Starting issues, 1997 NH 1715

To summarize.. I bought tractor from original owner, and the wiring is a mess. I suppose the previous owner lost the key, because he tucked the ignition switch behind the dash and just hooked up a push button... Prior to installing, the glow plugs, warning lights and everything...

Last update for now and brings us to current. Finally bought me a tractor, it's a 1997 NH 1715 4x4. I really could have used a FEL but could not pass on this one. Low miles and single owner. I'll have to do without for now. The tractor will be used mainly for mowing now - but this year I...

Trying to catch up over the last couple of months. The electricity is in. We ran the poles down north side of property to lower impact do my orchard. There is 15' easement so I wanted to minimal room taken up. The local coop charges almost $7 per foot.... Yikes. Still need to install some...

The property was purchased in August, and we have been mostly clearing brush from under oak trees where the first building will go. We are planning on a 30x50' steel building that will serve as workshop and orchard maintenance HQ. I never have seen so many youpon trees in my life, they are...

After being inspired by some of the other projects, I thought I would perhaps share our own dream / project. We recently purchased 28 acres in Central TX - close to Bastrop and Smithville. The property is 1/3 coastal pasture and 2/3 wooded - mostly oak and cedar. Our dream is to own a fully...

Got my service manual today, I figured I would share with anyone else who needed - in case it had not been previously posted.

ignition switch, any reason I can't use this on my 1710

I'm not paying $145 for an ignition switch... that's 1/20th of what I paid for the whole tractor. Any reason I can't use this switch? Functionally, it appears to be exactly the same with perhaps screw on terminals instead of spade connectors. It's a 5 position switch. Perhaps the dash hole...

    New owner, 1715

Just saying hi. I recently purchased a 1997 1715 from the original owner, it is 4x4 and has 800 hours on it. I think it's in great, original condition and had pretty light mowing duty so far. I think I got a good deal at $3000, but does need some minor work - mostly electrical. The motor and...
