The OEM parts are not that bad.
Your description of their structural intent was good. And beefing up that stress point will just transfer the "abuse" to another location that might be more expensive to fix. For all the use and abuse these 3 ph arms take (and have been taking for their 50-60 years of use), I'm thinking it is not a design flaw. Just sayin....
