790 vs 990 vs 4310

Well, yyou decided to go green, and that is what matters. I looked at quite a few brands myself. The 790 best suited my needs for what I wanted to do with the tractor. When your 790 comes in, look at the wheels on the front to see if they can be reversed. I reversed mine and the front end got a whole lot more stable with the FEL and on hillsides. It doesn't void your warrenty and I have been running mine like that for almost 200 hours that way. No problems at all.

My property is pretty darn flat but I'll look at the front and see. In the brochure they appear to be set wide already??

How is the FEL lift with heavy items?

Also I got the R-4's how's traction and ripping up the lawn?

Thanks in advance

If you have R4's, the fronts can be reversed to give you about 8 more inches of wheel base in the front.

The FEL can safely lift around 850 pounds, but you better have an heavy implement on the back. (like a bush hog, heavy box blade, tiller, etc.) (or you can have your back tires filled) The back end "WILL" come off the ground in a hurry and you risk tipping over, since the front axle is on a center pivot.

The R4's are wonderful on turf. I use my 790 in our landscaping business daily, and we run it on grass and sod lawns all the time. Just remember not to turn sharply on a "nice" lawn with it in four wheel drive. It has a tendency to scuff the lawn a little.

The little 790 will push a whole lot more than you would expect with the FEL. I ahve pushed some very large pieces of lime stone (aound 2 tons) around my property with it in 4WD and the rear differential locked in.

Horse, depends on what features you want with the tractor. Lots of bells and whistles and ehydro? Go with the 4310. Prefer a more basic gear shift tractor? Look at the 790 or 990. I would strongly recommend that you find a dealer that has all 3 and test operate all 3 tractors and put them through the paces. That should give you a good baseline comparison as to which you like best. Take into account pto hp. requirements and what you will be predominantly using the tractor for. Lots of incentives and offers on them right now.

Re: 790 vs 990 vs 4310 vs 5105

(My 5205, same chassis as 5105)

Stop by those local JD dealers again, that “didn’t” have the 990 and ask to see the JD 5105 MFWD Utility size (40 PTO hp) that may be “doable” ~~ $20k (street price) with all your special requests/implements…

(for only a few dollars more difference than the 990 series… lots more tractor etc. for the money!- Also special low interest financing)

Re: 790 vs 990 vs 4310 vs 5105

Even the dirt looks good on that rig...

THAT's the reason you're not seeing 990's. If you are spending that kinda money, most folks want more features (like the 4310) or more brute (5105)

JMIII is right, for your needs - I'd look hard at that one, even if it meant financing part...

IMHO

Hopefully PJR will pipe in. He has a 990 and I know for a fact he loves his tractor. He would be a good source of info for that particular model. I don't know anyone else out here with a 990.
