My friend picked up a 4-cyl diesel tractor that reads 901 on the hood. The trans is 4-speed and it's red and gray but looks to have been painted a few times. It has 13.6x28 rear tires and a standard wide front end. The numbers near the battery tray are eroded and may not be able to be read.
A few questions. If it is a 901 series and has a standard wide front end what about it would be different from an 801 series? Should there be something different about how the front axle mounts up to the engine? It doesn't seem to sit any higher than a standard utility. If the numbers by the trans are not readable what could tell us if the tractor was pieced together with salvage parts from 800/801's or even 600/601's?
Also, did Ford discontinue the 5-speed trans option after the Selecto-Speed came out? It seems like I only see the 5-speeds on the older 00 series.
