Dealer Another Deere dealership pulled

And what exactly is the purpose of this bill? To force companies to "carry" small under performing dealers and keep them in business? Believe me I don't like the idea of one dealer (in any business, not just tractors) controlling the market but at some point isn't the "small" dealer responsible for not making the changes required to keep up with the times? Trust me I would like to go to the old "Flying A" gas station again on the corner and buy a .5 cent Coke and play a .10 cent game of pool but I don't see that happening...

I dunno, I'm gonna have to say 2 thumbs up for that bill (Just wish it was federal, :D)
If Deere or any other MFG wants to control the market like they want, they should just open up corporate stores and be done with it. IMO, a MFG should sell Product A to any dealer and leave it at that. Its up to the dealer to make a profit however they see fit. Its a free market.
I look at it is if I think I could make money selling Deere (or any other brand) in my area, I should be able to open up a shop and do so...if I loose my shirt, well, thats my problem...Even if I won the powerball tomorrow and built a 25 million dollar shop, I probably couldnt sell Deere products...Whats wrong with that picture?

Word on the streets is that Deere is pulling dealerships who arent signing up for the "Deere-Mart" mentality...I heard that if a Mom & Pop shop gets onboard for the new mentality & shop design, they are good to go. It has less to do with moving tractors and more to do with moving T-shirts & JD Wind Chimes.

Consolidating dealerships has nothing to do with the economy. Its been a growing corporate policy for many years. Many of the dealer associations are pushing legislation to prevent the strong arming done to dealers by manufacturers like Deere. We've got a bill going to the PA Senate right now.

PA is vastly different from Wyoming- Our citizen legislature would not touch that issue with a ten foot pole. More legislation to regulate business will drive more business and develoment away.

I can only speak for my "mom & pop" dealer that started out as a single store back in 1947 selling farm equipment. Over the years they figured out that farming equipment, 30 minutes from downtown Philly wasn't going to keep them in bussiness. They did something novel...they adapted to the new market selling nothing larger than 5000 Series tractors. The bulk of their business now is homeowners and hobby farmers and they soon will be opening their third store. Just for the record they sell more than t-shirts and wind chimes, as you stated "its a free market". :)

That's unfortunate... for everyone (including business people).

Corporate interests continously - inexorably - strive for ANY advantages that allow them to increase market share: domination.

Carried to the extreme; over time you have - GM... Or the BIG BANKS!

There has to be "sideboards" established so that everyone will "play well with other's"! :D

Looks like somebody needs to start smacking JD upside the head with a few "sideboards"!

In time, JD will go the way of GM!

I wouldn't count on it. :D

Deere has maintained more of itself than Case, IH, and Ford. Maybe it is because they do know how to make the hard decisions that are necessary to stay in business.

Then again, none of US here really knows. :)

I didn't like to see my dealer friend have to sell his dealership, and it seemed Deere was continually pulling his strings. Now it is one of about 8 dealerships, but has kept the same personnel and friendly service. I am glad the doors are not closed, and I hope some of my business there will help to keep them open.

Let's don't socialize our country, trying to get everyone on an "even" playing field. Competition is what is best for us.

I hope MF has a better reputation in farm equipment than it has in compacts. I have seen them apart and even the mechanics were not impressed. I suppose it all has to do with competition within the division.... and quality levels of parts suppliers.

Too late. The goverment already owns a car company and loaned (gave)billions to Private Investment Banks! Is that fair to the competetion like Ford who didn't borrow from the goverment that the goverment bails out Chysler (twice) and GM. Makes no sence to me. Sorry for the rant!

I do believe that all of the consolidation and what is called "Brand Purity" is going to kill competetion. The big equipment manufactures are pressing hard to prevent dealers from selling the short line mfg equipment as well. That is why Deere has the Frontier Line. It is Deere's answer to their dealers that we offer everthing you need even if we don't build it, we can source it, you have no reason to sell any shortline equipment.
They want to put the squeeze on Kinze, Landoll, Great Plains and many many more short line mfg that are and have been very successful. They can't beat them in a free and open market so they will use their power over their dealers to hurt the competetion.
Here is link with will shed some light on this topic.

Competition is a great thing! Can generate all kinds of new and unique ideas!

Including ways to circumvent "legal" boundaries...

Rules and laws should not immediately be construed as "socialism". (At least that's what I tell my 17 year-old!) :D

That is my point- how much goverenment do you want in your lives??? Let the market correct its self- if the market can not support the business- then let natural process take hold- How long do you keep a business on a ventalator???? at the expense of the american tax payer.
