I think I may never finish this thing. Between being called away for work and owner not quite sure what he wants. I have begun calling this The Sisyphus Project.
But, end is near (I think) and another 200 cash in labor made it's way into the MIG fund today.
Yesterday I finished the spars for the gates. Today shortened the landing gear and made a foot for it. Landing gear took a few hours of tlc because the guy who built the trailer ran two welds down the side of it, apparently not knowing that the tubing would contract with the heat. I gotta say, I'm in awe at things like that and many bubblegum welds on the thing, considering the guy works for Bath Iron Works. As in "Aegis Cruiser". Then added headache rack. He may want stake pockets and has bought new axles which will need to be shortened by two feet.
If it was my trailer, I'd weld bushings into the gate holders, but I'm investing more time in it at this point than I'm getting paid for. My hope is this job will be a little advertising for small jobs.
I'm kinda proud of the foot, simply because it was bent with a homemade set of dies using three pieces of 1" round stock and a 20ton press. No heat wrench required!
