Yes on houses. Windows and doors get 1/2" 4 ply plywood sandwiched between two 2X12's. Garage doors usually get two pieces of 16" laminated veneer lumber (LVL), or two 2X12's with a 1/2" steel plate between them (flitch beam), or in some cases 16" tall glu-lam headers.Where are we using 2x12 headers?? Pops?? not on a house unless over the garage door, zat what ur talkin about??
I can't wait to move down south.
One town we built some houses in required flitch beams over doors or windows wider than 8'.
I've seen 2X10 picture window headers in 50 year old houses that had deflected 5/8". I find that to be totally unacceptable.
