Backhoe BH thumbs.....mechanical vs hydraulic????

   / BH thumbs.....mechanical vs hydraulic???? #21
Here is one installed on the Woods Groundbreaker BH9000.

This is almost like the #2 that dfkrug is using himself.
The Unit is bolt-on, no welding needed.

You can find some info on these at my web site Bro-Tek: Tractor Add Ons

How are the Wood’s hydraulic thumbs operated and are they run off the hydraulic pump provided with the hoe? The hydraulic thumbs I have used have been operated with your right foot and are very handy. Now if it were operated by another lever I am not sure I would find it as useful. My hands are generally pretty busy adjusting the hoe when closing the thumb.

I would like to know that, too. All the new GB-X Woods hoes I have seen
have not had the hydraulic thumb option. It is not clear to me if the
control would be a foot control. This photo is of the BH80-X with
mechanical thumb. As for the PTO pump, that is an option that is
independent of the hyd thumb option. The cheapest approach would
be to add one spool valve to the existing valve stack. That would eliminate
the need to run a hose to a separate valve down by your foot.

Neat! That will be a slick set up, while the price tag may sting for a bit it will yeild a dividend of smiles for years to come.

The only problem may be getting all your jobs done too quick with the added benefit of the hydraulic thumb!
