Bound to Happen...

I feel your pain. My TC40 had very similar damage. The previous owner had dropped a tree on the hood. I priced out a new hood ($1000+ from Messicks) and decided to do the fiberglass work myself. I ordered new grill, headlight and hardware from Messicks (love them) and spent a day sanding, filling cutting and priming the hood. Mine still has "battle scars" but from 20' she looks fine.

Good luck!

Just got off the phone w/ the NH dealer. $1499.90 for the hood..I asked him if the $.10 below $1500 made people feel better.

The lens is $128, alot for a piece of plastic. I'm looking for an OEM replacement now. If I don't find one, I'll break down and buy one.

For the heck of it.. call wengers of PA ( equipment salvage) and see if they have the hood/lamp assy from a parter... maybee it's cheap enough to amke a 'judgement' call on??

Otherwise.. i wouldn't hesitate to do a lil' body work to save 1500$...

I found them on the web today @ Farm Tractor Parts Division @ Wenger's of Myerstown, and have a message into them asking if they have either in inventory. I checked w/ a number of other sources too...we'll see. I'll keep you posted.

Take hood to auto body shop; it can be repaired.

$1500 is pretty close to the price I found also. I found it helpfull to write -$1500 in the checkbook and then look at the hood again. I decided the checkbook looked better with money, and my fiberglass work, although poor, looks good enough.

Bob, I said earlier in this thread that the hood might cost $600. Well, I must have had that confused with just the headlight and grill assembly. Your costs for complete replacement could go as high as $2000 it seems. That's pretty shocking to me and I think the repair is a far better option. It just seems strange to me that the entire hood, grill, lights and all should add up to 10% of the complete tractor's cost. Something seems skewed it that pricing, but of course, that's always the way it is for repair parts.:(

A few years ago when I read ASV's annual report, they stated that their profits were up substantially mainly because they had enough machines in the field and those machines had gotten old enough that the spare parts business was ramping up.

The mfg profit margins on spare parts are much better than on the base machine. The base machine will make you money, but the parts will make you rich:D .

Don't bother to fix it until at least winter.

I cracked my right headlight and dented the right side hood one day.

I just forced the hood back into shape, all worked just fine.

Then moving stumps up onto a burn pile one rolled down and just missed the brush guard and struck the left side hood and headlight. I forced the hood back into shape again and clear taped up the headlight.

This winter when it is real muddy I may fix it. But who knows what next spring and summer will bring.

My tractor by far my most exspensive tool and the most abused tool I have!!!

Yep... sad ain't it. Looking at component prices vs the whole enchalada..

Now i know why people part out a running tractor on ebay.. vs selling it whole..
