- John Deere 300B
I’ve got a John Deere 300B loader and backhoe (SN:049234T.. I think). The steering housing cracked and dumps fluid. I have talked to the local Deere dealer and he says it’s obsolete; they can’t get one and I’ve had no luck finding one online; from the reading I had done, it looked like the steering column off a 2 thousand series (PN:AL31262) might work, so I ordered one. I received the column and the outside is nearly the same, same length and bottom bolt pattern; however the internal diameter and piston rod is smaller than the original, but the connecting rod is slightly too big to fit in the steering shaft. I can’t see any reason it wouldn’t work if I made the rod fit to the shaft, or swapped rods. I just hate to go beating or grinding on a new part if it isn’t going to work. Any thoughts/input would be really appreciated.
