alpha,

You may be right about slick 50 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif but I agree with junkman, many high end vehiclels now come with Mobile 1 in them.

I went on a tour of a Penski engine factory, they only used Mobil 1, they said if anyone used any other type of oil the warrenty was voided. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

unless penske gives u mobil 1 free they can't void the warranty cause u use brand x oil.. anywayz..

One brand that uses and highly believes in synthetics is VW and Benz both have extended drains by 50-100% vw has 10K mile intervals benz has some up too 20-25K miles depending on oil life calc.

Tho i doubt realy improves anything go to cummins engines website and look at fuel economy pdf they showed on engines there was no signifigant increase in fuel economy in synthetic oils in engines tho mobil says 3-5% which u might never see??. Driveline fluids were a different subject. 3-8% increase

Also blackstone labs say of all the thousands of oil analysis there is no large or signifigant decrease in wear metals in engines vs conventional counterparts. FYI..

Not to start a war agian /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif but just food for thought i've seen on internet surfing..

I do use synthetics in my trucks and car and after a few oil changes the tractor too. the slick 50 waits untill a good break in occurs. I use it in all my vehicles and they do not show their mileage

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif well dip me in doggie poop I went to the slick50 site and ya cant use the standard slick 50 but there is a slick 50 big rig formula for diesel I'll have too investigate it more. I'm new to this diesel engine stuff and I got alot to learn.

Slick 50 is useless! First of all, the Teflon in it will get trapped in the oil filter during the first complete oil cycle. Second, even if the Teflon didn't get trapped and filtered out, it will not bond to the metallic surfaces - bonding Teflon to metal is a much more complicated process than simply putting a bunch of ground-up Teflon in some oil and squishing it around in high-pressure areas. Third, if it *did* work the way they say it does, you'd be introducing uneven engine wear that would lead to more problems down the line, and you'd be running the risk of altering important engine component tolerances.

If everyone who used Slick 50 just took that money and put it toward some extra preventative maintenance, they'd be much better off.

Slick 50 is worse than useless.

The FTC won a case against them for false advertising. Dupont tried not to sell them teflon to put in their product because they knew it wouldn't improve lubrication of engines. Look up "Slick 50" on Google and see what you find.

just use fresh clean diesel, if u live in a cold area the diesel will be formulated to prevent gelling, i have never had a problem with that, and 0 deg is common around here. might help if u fill in your profile a bit. give the guys a better idea of your area and uses.

Kobotabling,

Your right about my statement, they can't void the warranty if you use another brand oil, you just have to meet the spec's /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Fuel economy may not go up in a cummins engine when using synthetic oils but it did in my Durango /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. But not much, around 2% and that was an average of checking it for a long time.

But I agree with the drive line fluids /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I got around an 8-10% increase in fuel economy when I changed all of these fluids. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I know this will touch off some people, but I use Amsoil in my cars, It's only my opinion but I think my car is worth spending a little extra on when it comes to oil /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif some people will say oil is oil but then again i have 2 cars one at 111,000 and the other at 215,000 and never had a oil repair yet /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Like I said this is only my opinion on oil and I'm not trying to sell anyone.:p

Boy we got off the subject /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
