i have tracked the fuel on my 2012 ram 2500 hemi, crew, 6.5ft, 4x4 since new (november 2012). so far i am at 12.12 mpg average over the winter being remote start happy. i hope I see over 14 average this summer having already averaged over 13 on a couple tanks when i don't have to do a bunch of running around. it seems the sweet spot is about 67mph with my 3.73 gears on the highway where it showes me about 16-17 mpg on the readout (always within .3mpg of my tracked true mileage). with 3.73 gears and .625 6th gear ratio it seems to bog alot if you go under 65 and ends up sucking down more fuel, over 70 the aero drag makes it start guzzling dino juice.

My vote would be for a Super Duty. I have an 2012 F-250 and love it. I've done a lot of towing and definitely prefer overkill on the truck. Bigger brakes and a heavy-duty suspension can reduce stress. A bigger truck pulling your trailer is more comfortable when it's late at night, when it's raining, when it's icy, when you're tired, when you're distracted. I don't like pulling trailers that are pushing the envelope on the truck's weight rating.

What a difference 10 years make. I had a 2500 Hemi 4x4 crew cad short bed the first year they came out. It had either 3.73 or 3.92 gears, can't remember. Anyway it was right at 10 mpg on a good day. Down hill with a tail wind maybe 12 and throw a trailer on it and you were lucky to see 8.

That is not too bad at all. I have a 2012 Ram 2500 Cummins with 3.73's and get about 12.5-13 around town and 15-16 mpg on the highway at 70-75ish. I am running 34 in Toyos so that does not help but really has not made a big drop in my mileage - it was never good!
