When I was young, it was quit common to see backhoes mounted on flatbed trucks in cemeteries.

MossRoad, when did you stop being young? At 73 this month I am starting to feel I am getting close...

The comment was purely chronologically speaking.

I'll be 59 next week. All things considered, I'm pretty darn healthy physically and think young, so I don't consider myself old yet.

I walk about 10 miles a day, run the stairs multiple floors two-at-a-time 20-30 times a day, eat about 4000 calories a day, lots of fruits and veggies, chicken, fish, small portions of read meat 3-4 times a week, pizza, maybe 1-2 beers a week, about a dozen eggs every week, 2 bottles of pop every day, 2 gallons of 2% milk every week, granola for breakfast. Cookies, oatmeal cream pies, or nutty bars 3-4 times a day. Last week my blood pressure was 105/73 and I fluctuate between 202-212 for the last 2.5 years. Can't complain.

$17,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Jasper, Ga.

They used the Unimog chassis built under license by Freightliner and a Case 580 backhoe attachment, the backhoe attachment can be folded up against the back of the cab so the vehicle maintains its departure angle. The idea was to be rapidly deployable on road and not need and extra truck to transport. An idea that's been tried or flirted with many times in the past currently the U.S. Military is using a special version of the JCB backhoe/loader that can do 'highish speeds' like maybe 45mph and the Canadian Army is using a backhoe/loader made by a company called ARVA that uses a 590 Case backhoe attachment and modified set of loader arms. The cab is armoured as is the JCB I believe. Some pictures I've saved for my own model building hobbies from the internet over the years.

Yes - there was a fellow with an unmodified Unimog in our 4WD club in Anchorage. It would darn near go anywhere, where there is good footing. The problem being - there wasn't much that could get to him to help him get unstuck. Those things are very heavy and sink like a rock in soft ground or similar. He gave up taking the Unimog on our 4WD runs. Went with a CJ & wide Terra Tires.

You want a go anywhere vehicle - look at a Nodwell or Thiokol with their wide flotation tracks.

They have their own problems like throwing tracks and that always happens in the worst places possible. lol
