Thanks we have another one with a 1 point hitch that we redid ourselve thats a 60 model its got a different grill. Waiting to get the hitch and cultivator parts blasted an painted.

I have a few questions. What I have read thus far on this thread has been very helpful, by the way. However, I am wondering if I can convert a 1966 IH 140 into a 3-point hitch myself. I am considering buying one locally but don't know a lot about the cultivators, etc., that it can handle.

I saw an IH 140 offset the other day and thought it might be perfect for cultivating my several acres of sweet corn. I would prefer if it came in a non-offset version. Does anyone know if it does? As well, maybe there are similar IH models that might be of the same era that would work? I suppose even the IH 265 Japanese tractors might work but I don't know the models or numbers.

I really like the quality of the old IH tractors and I only need 2WD to cultivate. In fact, my fertilizer units would bolt right on to an eary IH like the 140 or ?? .

I know very little about these IH tractors but was smitten by the purr of a finely made engine and quality of construction. Anyone know much about these tractors or models and what a real nice one might cost in $$ ??. Thanks in advance for any help.

The Farmall Super A is what you want for a few acres of row crop.
I bought mine last Nov locally for $1300. It's a 1951 model painted safety orange since it was used by CalTrans to mow ditches.
It came with a mid-mount sicklebar mower (6-ft blade) and a scraper on the 3pt hitch. Normally these Farmalls come with a 2-point hitch.

You can find these old Farmalls on craigslist all the time. The best deals, IMHO, come with tractor and implements, like the sicklebar mower and blade that were part of my deal. You can also find mid-mount cultivation implements for Farmall Cubs, A's and Super A's on eBay fairly often.

I know you are probably looking for "red" tractors mostly,, but Deere made a model 900HC with a 25 HP diesel from the 1986 thru the 1990 I think. It's a high crop tractor made just for what you want to do. Just suggesting an alternative.

I have owned a 900HC but the parts were too hard to come by. Engine parts next to impossible and many parts exclusive to that model. Sold it at a good price and on to something to just do the sweet corn. Thanks

IH made a 240, in Tricycle, and utility... 2 point Fast Hitch. Same 123 engine..., & 4 speed tranny If you're looking to cultivate, the SA, 100, 130,140, would do best. Looking right over top of the row...

The trouble with the newer tractors, I do not believe they are set up for row crops.

Year before last, when travelling to KY a lot.. I could not believe the amount of A's and newer..., and C's still in service cultivating in tobacco patches.., between Maysville and Lexington on Rt. 68.

I have 2 A's. I would LOVE to have a newer model with the single prong Fast Hitch, for antique plowing days..!!

Oliver also made an offset model... A 44 if I remember correctly. The JD 900 in there too... And a while back, I found a Ford version... Can't remember the model number through...

I see you are from Central Ohio... Would that 140 be the one in Nerk..?? The price has dropped drastically, from the first time it was posted...

The Ford was a 1710 and was a nice tractor with lots of spare parts around from the 1710 and 1720 regular models. I don't own a High Crop at the moment but am always on the lookout. Always have to be wary as well since a lot of these never made it under cover or even got the oil changed.
These antique plowing days you mention--where are they in Ohio this year? I missed the Horse Progress Days or whatever it's called--in Ohio two years ago.
