JD 455E crawler loader buying questions

Here is the machine in question. The fellow's son said his dad only changed the engine oil, and was not a fan of greasing or cleaning the undercarriage. It shows.



Is there any way to save this machine? The thought crossed my mind to look for a parts machine that has an ok UC, swap some parts, and get some time out of it. I appreciate your advice, it helps me to make a decision. Best regards. John

If you can get it for free....take it.
You can "part it out".
If not.....leave it!

Price of scrap is depressed right now. All it's worth from what I can see.

What I would worry about most....The transmission and finals. Parts are expensive and getting harder to find. If what you are seeing on the outside is questionable, what about the internals you can't see?
