Comparison John Deer 5065 vrs Kubota 5640

Thanks for the input. I actually will use the backhoe for small jobs when everything is done, so going to bite the bullet and get it, again the savings on digging our own ditch justify the cost. Very lucky to have several good dealers around here. These are both very good companies and very good tractors....gonna go with the deer. Now sorting out the 5065E vrs the 5075E. While the 5083e is very nice, I'm one who really does not like cabs. Been bouncing around on a ford 8n for 15 years....I like the breeze in my face. PTO readings from Nebraska indicate that the 5065E measures out at 56.5 vrs 62.8 Land pride claims their 12 ft cutters will work with a 50hp PTO, but that is the low end. There is a nice 5065E on the lot...going to go see if I can see a 5075E...Thanks again for all the great input.MK

And to be sure we are talking about the 'E' series John Deere? That will explain the price being cheaper than the Kubota, I thought we were talking about the 'M' series, which are more feature packed. I still believe you will want to get at least the 5075E for a cutter that big. I would highly recommend looking at the 'M' series (feature packed) tractors as well before purchasing. A little more money, but a lot more fun to run.

I would recommend a 5085M, all the tractor you would ever need without an up grade later. Shop around for better pricing you should be able to get 15 to 18% off.

Thanks for all the input. They had a 5065e JD on the lot. I really liked it, so did my wife. So we are going to go with that. I'm very impressed with both the deer and Kubota. Boy makes me realize how lucky we are to have such great choices. Descided not to trade in my ford 8N. After all these years very bonded to that tractor.
Will keep you posted on our project...

I think you will enjoy the 5065E. Are you purchasing a mower with the tractor purchase? Will be curious to see the choice you make and level of satisfaction. I saw the post by one showing the use of a 15' mower with 46 PTO. I question how well a full 15' pass in 2' deep bahia would be.

Great question. No I am not geeting the mower yet. The big cuts I do will be very late in the season (October) When the grass is dry and less of a load. I will rent/to buy a 12 foot cutter and see how it does. Given that I had cut the entire 90 plus acres with the ford 8N after it had already gone patially feral ..I'm used to listening to engine strain:) So I will get a good seens if this will work. If not I will drop to a smaller cutter.I will keep people updated if it works. Also will let you know how my 4500ft trench goes:):):) Probably finish that one in 2-3years.

Am curious what brand and model backhoe you are considering. I can think of occasions where one would be handy. Have found some used ones that run off the tractor PTO system and seem to be self contained. Have also looked at one where a guy had a subframe he used with it.

I'm getting the 485. I have used a bigger case digger in the past. Everyone I talk to thinks I'm crazy and should rent a "big backhoe" especially for 5ftx4500ft. But its one of those things I just gotta try. I will let you know how it goes. Certainly will be able to give you lots of input in a month or so....

Good point and like how the picture finishes the sentence!

I must admit I am impressed that you are able to run the 15' cutter on 46 PTO HP. Mowing food plots with 2'-4' tall grass will bog my 6' cutter on 56 PTO HP at around 4 mph.

I use an 8ft Landpride(RCR3596) pull-type if its gets to bad but thats as small as I go and mow it as low as I can before shredder digs in(sharp blades).
