Re: Meaning of \"Meine Ehre Heibt Treue?\"

Yeah, thanks to DiskDoctor's links, it looks like it is an SS Officer's dagger from around 1933. If anyone knows how I might find it's value, let me know. Some of the search links are to high-end auction houses so, yeah, it might be worth something.

"Have you asked the teacher about this? From what I have read the last few years, kids bringing knives to school get expelled, charged and the knife confiscated. She might get a lesson you really don't want her to learn. "

I good friend of mine made that mistake when he was in college in the 80's. He had to do a presentation for his public speaking class. He decided to do it on something he grew up around and was knowledgeable about, revolver and semi-auto handguns. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

He arrived at class with a revolver and a semi-auto pistol. Both were in cases and had the firing pins removed. When it was his turn to give his presentation, he set them out on the table and began to explain the differences, safe handling etc. Immediately, two girls got up and left the class (to summon the campus police).

When he finished and left the classroom, two police officers were waiting. They were relieved that he had rendered the guns "safe" by removing the firing pins, no ammunition etc. They escorted him to his car to make sure there were no "incidents" after a lengthy talk.

It's bad enough that this was in the 80's. Today, I'm sure a SWAT team would have been called. It never occured to him that this was inappropriate, he'd been around guns all his life.

BTW:
The teacher wanted to give him an A+ for the quality of the presentation. Due to the topic, and the failure to think it through, he was given a F.

Re: Meaning of \"Meine Ehre Heibt Treue?\"

In the late 70's I took my rifle to school and did a presentation. I just cleared it with the principle first. I had to leave the bolt and the rifle in the school office all day until the presentation, but I was allowed to carry it all down to the classroom and do my presentation, then bring it back to the office. Things were much different then. The school had a rifle team. Kids would keep shotguns in their trunks for hunting after school, etc... nothing was thought of it. Don't want to hijack the thread with all the stuff that lead up to today's situation, though. Just sharing what I was able to do 25 years ago. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Meaning of \"Meine Ehre Heibt Treue?\"

I was out of school when I moved to Lovelock, NV. but I was still in the high school age group and hung around with a few of the locals. They carried guns in the rifle racks and cases of dynamite in the tool boxes of their trucks on the school grounds. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I remember myself and three other fellows walking around an airport carrying uncased rifles and taking them on the plane with us.

Re: Meaning of \"Meine Ehre Heibt Treue?\"

Alright, you guys have really hijacked my thread now. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Everything worked out fine. Presentation went well and no one was injured when the dagger was passed around the room. The teacher would not let the kids "unsheath" the dagger, they could just look at the case. Uniformed officer took knife to and from classroom. I picked up from office at end of school day. Yes, it was a quite a production, and required significant help from generous TBN members, but it went great and generated lots of "historical" discusssions.

Thanks again!

Re: Meaning of \"Meine Ehre Heibt Treue?\"

When I was in 8th grade I was asked to bring my .22 rifle to an outdoors-related class. I just hung it over my shoulder on the sling, rode my bike to school and carried it into the classroom. No one thought it was a big deal. That was in '54 or '55.

Re: Meaning of \"Meine Ehre Heibt Treue?\"

I graduated from H.S. in 1987. When I was in the 8th or 9th grade we had this yearly fund raiser. For the kid that sold the most "crap" they got their choice of a bicycle or 410 single shot shotgun. Hey, our school actually supplied the guns! It was always some girl that won and would take the bike. Oh the hours I spent day dreaming of the wing shots I would get off with my trusty new shotgun.

Re: Meaning of \"Meine Ehre Heibt Treue?\"

Glad it went well for you. It is important to keep history accurate and in the classroom. I know a lot about WWII from my dad(he was in the South Pacific). But sooo many kids do not know beans about it. Good job to you. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
