That's the good thing about a 66 year old truck. No computers, plenty of room to work on them. Bad thing is that parts are available but not locally and need to be ordered. I think the head gasket started leaking because bolts were never re-torqued. Truck only has 6,600 miles on it.

Very nice truck ... and, being a straight 6 helps with ease as well.

Yes, there is a separate pump.

Some of the early GC's have a pump defect, that is very expensive to repair.

What year is it?

You will more than likely find the pump shaft has sheared the drive gear.

The pump needs to be replaced. And, the gear it drives, needs to be replaced.

The entire transmission needs to be disassembled to do so.

It's an expensive repair.

MF only has been covering the parts cost.

Please let us know what they do for him, so we can tell the next guy.

Really?! So the implement pump is INSIDE the tranny housing? How unusual.

I have seen the implement pump/PS pump driven off the engine's front gears on
the left side, the FI pump shaft on the right side, and the rear gearbox (JD).

No, the implement pump is external, and under the floorboard.

The gear that drives it, is inside the tranny housing. And, that needs to be replaced.

Of course, everything is in the way, so it all has to come out.

Sorry, for not being more specific.

UPDATE:
Neighbor got his tractor fixed. He got lucky, as it wasn't the pump or the shaft. He had run over some large boulders (He hadn't mentioned that to me, He told me it just stopped working) and one of the boulders crushed (pinched) off a metal hydraulic line cutting off the flow to the loader and 3 pt. Dealer replaced the line and got it working again. Cost to him was about $300.
When he went to pick it up, He paid his repair bill and ended up trading it in on a new 1734E. The 1734E was just delivered to him today.

Now he can drive over bigger boulders. :D

Nice looking tractor!
