hey all, my boyfriend just bought a used sickle bar cutter for his tractor. It came installed with a used and in rough shape knife bar , but ALSO came with a second knife bar. He want to removed the damaged one and put on the other one. The problem is that the knife head bolt is stuck … it just keeps turning like it has a rubber washer or something. Advice is welcome how to get this off.

Has he tried putting the nut partially back on and hitting the nut with a hammer to get it started. Hitting the nut keeps from mushrooming the bolt.

Didn’t work the nut goes on the left and there’s no room to hit it. The bolt it just locked up( either from corrosion or there’s a rubber washer that fused). He tried hitting with his torch to try to loosen it up.

Put nut on and use a pry bay? WD 40 overnight? Does bolt turn?
We’ve tried all of it .. the bolt does turn .. but it won’t come out.

Not sure which bolt it is, but I've used an angle grinder to grind off stubborn bolts.

WAIT - turn the pto shaft until the bolt is out beyond that channel so you can punch it out!!!

We did .. it’s out as far as we can get it but the housing is still in the way

If it's the bolt at the bottom, put a screwdriver where the red line is and push the end of the bolt in while you are trying to unscrew it. That may get it to catch the threads. The screwdriver will get leverage against the silver bolt to the left.

What about cutting through it with a sawzall on both sides of the rubber bushing. Does the new knife have a bushing already? If so, you'll only need to find a bolt and nut to replace it. If not, you likely need a new bushing anyway, especially if it's been torched.
