George "Scrap" Hymel, a Louisiana farmer, died a year ago. His kid built a life size wooden Deere 4020 out of firewood to be burnt as an effigy in his honor.

Here are 2 pics and the full story.

Farewell to you, my pup, Navy seal.
With your sleek black coat and unwavering zeal, You were more than just a dog, you were my partner in crime. Together we conquered, in every mountain we climbed
You were trained and skilled, a warrior at heart, With every task given, you played your part. Fearless and brave, with a spirit so true
You showed me the meaning of loyalty, through and through
From land to sea, you fearlessly swam
Through rough waters and storms, you never gave a damn. Your determination and courage, always shining bright
You were truly a Navy seal, my pup, my knight. But now it's time to say our goodbyes, As the time has come, for us to part our ties
You served your country, with pride and grace
And now it's time for you, to retire in a peaceful place
I'll miss your playful bark, The way you would nudge me, when it's time to embark
But most of all, I'll miss your unconditional love
My dear pup, you were a blessing from above. Though you may be gone, your memory will live on
In every mission we completed, in every challenge we've won
You'll always hold a special place, deep in my heart. Farewell my pup, my Navy Seal, we'll never truly be apart. My faithful friend, my loyal pup,
Your time with me is drawing up.
I see the sadness in your eyes,
As your body weakens, each day it dies.
You've been my constant companion,
Through every sorrow and every canyon.
You never once left my side,
In you, I could always confide.
But now I see you struggle to stand and walk,
And I know it's getting close to the end.
Your once shiny coat begins to grey,
As your energy slowly fades away.
I remember the days of endless play,
But now you can barely make your way.
Our walks have become hard and a struggle,
But still, my love for you cannot be fought.
I watch as you take your final breath,
And I know it's time to say goodbye, my dear pet.
My heart aches as I hold you tight,
Knowing I must let you go into the night.
You close your eyes and drift away,
Leaving me here, with nothing to say.
But memories of our time together,
Will live on in my heart forever.
My dying dog, you were more than a pet,
You were my confidant, my comfort, my net.
I'll miss your wagging tail and sloppy kisses,
But now it's time for you to rest in bliss.
So farewell, my gorgeous navy seal, until we meet again,
In that place where pain and suffering end.
You'll forever hold a special place in my heart,
My dying dog, now it's time to depart.
In the wilderness, where shadows dance,
My faithful dog will find her chance.
Her paws, once worn from countless trails,
Now tread on earth where freedom prevails.
Through sun-kissed meadows, she'll bound,
Her spirit unchained, no leash to confound.
Amongst ancient trees, their roots entwined,
She'll chase elusive butterflies, unconfined.
The babbling brooks will sing her name,
As she drinks from crystal-clear streams aflame.
Her fur, a tapestry of earth and sky,
Whispers secrets to the wind as it flies by.
In moonlit nights, she'll howl at the stars,
Her voice harmonizing with distant guitars.
The wilderness, her canvas, painted with grace,
Each pawprint a memory, each step a trace.
She'll run with the wolves, swift and wild,
Their eyes reflecting the moon's silver dial.
No pain, no age, just boundless delight,
As she weaves through ferns in the soft moonlight.
And when her tired body finally rests,
Amongst wildflowers, her spirit invests.
The wilderness cradles her gently, you see,
A final refuge for my dear dog and me.
So let her roam, my faithful friend,
Beyond the veil where earthly journeys end.
In the wilderness, her soul takes flight,
Forever running, forever free, in the eternal night.

Sorry for your loss, and know your pain first hand. I can relate. I just (2 weeks ago) had to put my almost 13 year old lab "Jack" down. That's him, to the left. He was my 4th so I know the drill, but it sure is hard.

Nice tribute. You gave her a great life.

It's tough when they go, and certainly leaves a hole. I still find myself talking to mine, and he's been gone 7 months.

The way they play Christmas with the Kranks on an endless loop every December, I’m always surprised this is never listed among his credits in articles discussing his highlights. Probably nearly everyone under age 50 knows him first and best, from that role.
I must be old then since I remember him from "The Jerk" as the sniper. "Die gas pumper", lol.
